Okay, now, I actually had no idea what the laws were concerning gay adoption. I don't know if it's legal in every state, any state, some states. I know apparently gays can have foster children, but that there are different laws concerning actual adoption. I saw this article:

about a ban on gays adopting repealed in Florida :D , and it got me wondering. Does anyone out there know the current laws?

A state agency Tuesday gave up its fight to prolong Florida's 33-year-old ban on gays adopting, the only such law in the country.

The action came less than three weeks after a Miami appellate court ruled the law unconstitutional.

Unless Attorney General Bill McCollum appeals -- which lawyers in the case say is likely to fail -- the ban is effectively dead.

The Florida Department of Children & Families opted not to ask the state Supreme Court to rule on a lower court decision allowing Frank Martin Gill of North Miami and his partner to adopt two brothers. Such an appeal, DCF spokesman Joe Follick said, "would have less than a limited chance" of success.

Yeah, I live in this backward fundamentalist christian run state and our "activist courts" finally put an end to this embarrasment.

Everyone thinks that our asshole attorney general won't touch this issue again. He just dropped out of the governor's race here, probably because a lot of us are still pissed that he hired an "expert witness" for $68K to testify that gays are unsuitable to be parents.

The judge saw thru the christian drivel and said the expert witness was just foisting his religious beliefs and had no science to back it. You may recall that the expert witness was none other than George Rekers, an anti-gay fanatic who got caught taking a cruise with some cutie from rentboys.com. :D

Now, some judge just declared Don't Ask, Don't Tell is unconstitutional and it could also just die EXCEPT the Executive Branch wants congress (the opposite of progress) to get rid of it.

SHIT, if we waited for congress to do anything, Obama's mama and daddy could not have gotten married in 17 states because of miscegenation laws that our activist court had to declare unconstitional in 1967.

(I supported Obama in the last election but I am more and more getting disappointed with his do nothing. WE WANTED CHANGE.

Anyhow, this Anita Bryant era homophobic law seems to be as dead as her OJ career after she successfully spread her bigoted ideas to the state in 1977.

So if Florida was the only state to have a ban, does that mean that it is completely okay everywhere else? Is that de jure or de facto? Do homosexuals get to adopt just as easily as hetero couples?
