For the first time ever, half of Americans favor the legalization of marijuana! The latest Gallup poll on crime indicates 50% of Americans are for the legalization of cannabis, while 46% are against it. http://www.gallup.com/poll/150149/Record-High-Americans-Favor-Legalizing-Marijuana.aspx So what's Obama going to do about it?
He has a heart of stoned...? Not holding my breath unfortunately as he has shown himself to be another corporate shill... big pharma can't be the least bit interested in legalization- let alone the for profit criminal justice system.
This is excellent news since the Feds are gearing up to fight the legalization campaigns putting legal cannabis on the ballots in 2012. This now looks like a losing battle for them, but don't expect them to surrender without a huge fight. They're gonna ram the worst propaganda since "Reefer Madness" on the people, watch for it! The latest busts in Mendocino, of people with tagged plants who paid the county to grow is insane. And we're fighting incredibly stupid regulations here that will shutdown half the dispensaries in the county, not to mention the Feds promise to shut everyone down. It's gonna get legalized BY THE PEOPLE, who are now more energized than ever to fight the injustices in our everyday lives. Change is a comin'!
I'm wondering if this culminates into a battle over states rights should the fed move to undermine legalization campaigns.
i think it is really absurd that we have to decriminalize it in the first place. it's absurd that plants have been criminalized on our planet. anybody who thinks they have the right to outlaw nature is insane. and the fact that the majority of people think this kind of legislation is legit and something the government has a right to say anything about is also fucked up. most people really are idiots. i find it ironic that while there are a number of actual poisonous plants out there, it's perfectly legal to consume those plants, but not the ones that can make you feel good. so it's ok to kill yourself, but not to feel good. i'm really surprised sex and masturbation haven't been banned yet although the catholic church did try. anyway, nice to see such a result. i hope it will continue to rise and these hypocrites will get to be put in their place.
Among the list of things that are legal but can kill you are cigarettes, alcohol, pills... I don't understand why the government has to get involved with things like that anyway. There's a difference in keeping your people safe and trying to control their daily lives because you're a power hungry hog. But whatever. More and more people are starting to advocate legalizing bud and that's enough to make me smile at the moment.
Now those 50% need to get tuned into Ron Paul's message, because Obama and the other candidates aren't going to change their minds at all when it comes to this issue. No question about it. Ron Paul's the only one that will end the drug war and let the states handle it. I bet California would be the first to completely legalize it if he becomes President.
Amen brother. Legalization of the Buds and Criminalization for America's imperialism. A few years ago I would have never guessed I would be supporting one of America's most concervative republicans, but then again a few years ago I didn't have the propper perception of what a true conservative republican was.. I thought they were all oliceman:... oops wrong emoticon .. I thought they were all iggy:
Ron Paul is NOT the answer. He's part of the problem. He's PRO-BIG BIZ! You really should learn more about his stance on a LOT of things. Yes, he wants to end the wars, too, but nothing else he is for is on the liberal agenda. It's all "economic libertarianism", which is exactly what the Occupy movement is fighting.
I suspect that Ron Paul is just a political tool useful in getting a subset of the population that the establishment deems suitable for surveillance to show itself.
according to a thread I read the other day about voting and whether you can complain if you don't vote. It surprised me how many people posted saying they do not vote at all. No wonder people don't show up to the polls...they have no faith in the system. A lot of that 50% probably doesn't vote at all. So I don't quite believe that change is right around the corner... its going to take more than we think. especially with how much control big business has over the system to begin with. I know the occupy wall street is trying to make this point about corporations but that's also not the only reason they are out there in the first place. Organization is key. Some lady standing on the street crying about the situation in panama is not going change anything.(saw this yesterday) They need to keep to one underlying reason why they are protesting. At this point its many things.... I have given up hope of having that president that will help the cause. Its just so messed up...
Ron Paul is pro-average American being able to be successful. His views on America are that of the founding fathers. He seems to be the only candidate that actually feels for the Occupy Wall Street movement. In fact, his name seems to have started spreading there. By the way, in reference to your icon, Timothy Leary actually held a fundraiser for Ron Paul when he ran for Libertarian in 1988. haha I know things are fucked up, but when an honest and consistent candidate comes out, the people need to give him a chance and get him all the support he can get. I've read about Ron Paul supporters being put on lists as "potential terrorists", but that's because Ron Paul himself is a threat to the establishment. Hence the media blackout on him. I'm not trying to turn this into a Ron Paul debate, but the thing is Obama and no other candidate right now, besides Ron Paul, cares or is going to do anything about ending marijuana prohibition. You can't change their minds. They're corrupt. Period. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHBCsPYuKIs"]Ron Paul: End Marijuana Prohibition Now! - YouTube
Actually the TRUTH about Ron Paul and Marijuana is that he wants to end the FEDERAL DRUG WAR, and doesn't want the US gov't telling states what to do. So for him it's a states rights issue, and not a marijuana issue. HE IS NOT FOR NATIONAL LEGALIZATION of MARIJUANA!!! He wants the states to decide. And if they choose to ban it, keeping it illegal and putting people in jail for it, he's fine with it! Read between the lines ppl! You people need to PARSE his words better. It's not what he says, it's what he doesn't say. He's against national prohibition, but isn't really ENDORSING legalization of marijuana on the federal or state level. Although I give him credit for discussing the issue, unlike other candidates.
And what's wrong with that? It's still a huge step. He's already dealing with critics about wanting to end the drug war. He can't go for full legalization just yet. But I believe if he becomes President and without the fear from the federal government, state governments will start reconsidering their stances, especially California. California won't be suffering from federal raids anymore, which would only continue under any other candidate. If one state legalizes, and the other doesn't, guess what? Then everyone will start moving to the other state, and then that state will set an example to the others. Ron Paul is also the only candidate who's directly acknowledged that there are sick patients that use cannabis and that it actually helps them. He's talked to sick patients and sympathized with them, and said he's seen cancer patients that he felt would have benefited from cannabis being available. To end the drug war and see any sort of movement towards legalization, we need this man in office. This is not like Obama, who just because he smoked a little weed when he was younger, a lot of people thought he was going to legalize it. Pah. He increased drug war spending and federal raids instead.
It has really become a battle. The thing is that the benefits of marijuana is touching the lives of the people. So if the legalisation helps them, then the efforts are really welcome. And the figures are really showing that more and more people are supporting the cause.
There is no fear in the face of knowledge and truth. Truth is what turned me from being anti-drug into someone who's passionate about cannabis and psychedelics. Reason why many people have been so against it is fear.
