This lady on a tv show I'm watching trepanned herself (can that be turned into a verb?) trepanning - hole in the skull and videotaped it in the 70's, it's not even that modern a thing She says it's good for everyone to have a whole in the skull, like a third eye (but doesn't recommend that people do it themselves) *shudders*
oh Ganja, only you would turn something like that into something sexual But yes, she put a hole in her own skull, the actual drilling process was about 30min long, the whole surgery took about 3 hours apparently. And she videotaped it so she could make a movie out of it. Such insanity

people have been doing that wierd shit for ages. apparently it increases blood flow tot he brain or some shit. as to whether it increases awareness, i imagine having a great hole in your head would make you more aware of your surroundings, at least. wouldn't wanna go banging your head into stuff....

Everytime I hear about the movie Pi, it makes me think of hte movie Cube (weird Canadian flick, if I remember correctly) Anywho, I know trepanning has traditionally been done to try and relieve head injuries, like concussions and brain swelling and the like. But to do it voluntarily just because you think it makes you a cooler person, and then to do it to yourself with only local anaesthesia... that's just crazy to me, I can't even contemplate being in such a headspace where you'd willingly do it
