Today a person in a store called me a prejudice term cause my grandmother is half Jewish. It really pissed me off. The way it came up in conversation was that when I was at the end of the checkout line (I was buying my Grandma a holiday gift, cause she culturally celebrates Christmas even though she isn't CHristian), and the person said "Merry Christmas", and even though I don't care about Christmas, I said thanks. Then he said and I wish a Merry Christmas to my grandmother, and I said thanx but she doesn't celebrate it, cause I was in a joking mood, and the guy looked like a real hick. So he called me a derogatory term for Jewish people. I din't bother to tell the asshole that I was raised Roman Catholic (regardless of my grandmother's heritage ) and that I don't have a religion, cause I was afraid that the guy would whip out a rifle and shoot me dead or something. That's some fuckin holiday spirit, ain't it W? (That was sarcasm).

It's a deragotory term for Jewish people that starts with the letter "K", but I don't want to say it out of respect for my grandmother.

My only issue was the guy saying a racist word about me (that's not even true about me , but that's beyond the point), cause I don't like racism towards ANYONE. No problem with saying Merry Christmas.

    Least you're not part black.

    Racism is pretty gay.

Seriously though, hate can only be stopped by confronting idiots like that.

Also Jesus was born around March... and a Jew. And possibly black.

Very wise post. Thank you for you're sentiment man. Very true. Hypothetically if there was a Jesus, he was like not black and not white, like somewhere in between. I think that represents the unity of mankind. I was watching this shit on the news the other night about some doctor, Doctor Chan or Yann or something (very intelligent dude) discovering that we are all the same, and that race is just a genetic thing (whatever the term is, I ain't no scientist). It was cool. Means everone is equal. I just quoted you because you said At least you're not part black. You're right that I'm not patr black, but what's wrong with being black?

Nothing, but while we are on the subject... why do we refer to people with brown skin as "black"? I've NEVER seen a black person... And for that matter, why are people with peachy skin called "White"?

This whole thing has me baffled and confused.

    I'm going to my room.

shoulda gotten the guys name, at the very least I'd call up the manager of the store and lodge a complaint. There is NO reason why any person should be using racist words while on the job, particularly directly towards a customer. That's incredibly unprofessional, even if it was a shitty part time job it's unprofessional

Don't mistake my post, Theres nothing wrong with being black, many of my friends are black.

And I love the sistas. [IMG]

I was just stating that no matter the discrimination you face, (and I do empathise) It's nowhere near as intense as the racism blacks face. Not only in the US but also in the history of humanity in about every society. Blacks have been kept down very brutally for at leasy the past thousand years.

I could keep on going, but I was just trying to make the point that blacks have really gotten the short end of the stick.

Do something nice for your grandmother for the holidays. [IMG]

It was meant to be ironic. Next time I'll put in a :roll eyes: for you.

I find over sensitivity to terms like this to be counter-productive and to give the speaker of hate power. Using it in the context of humor is not only shocking to provoke thought, but also takes the power of negative connentation away from the word.

In much the way the hip-hop community has embraced the word ******. Censoring by judging by content rather then context robs the speaker of its intended meaning.

That's ignorant. There was no need for him to get racist with you. I'm sorry you had to encounter such a jerk.

I would have reported him to the manager of the store. That way, he'd think twice about spouting off racist remarks to others in the future.
