I've been following the squabling between the vegetarians and the carnivores for years now and I keep wondering why those concerned with the morality of thier diet aren't fruitarians. Fruit have few if any faces (coconuts?) and unlike meat critters and vegies, most of which are harvested before they can set seed and propagate fruit in the most part are designed to be eaten as a means of spreading seed and there by propagating their kind.
There are actual fruitarians at large in the World...My Dad new of one in New York...This thought scares me somewhat...Can you imagine a life with no savory flavors?...I myself do not have a sweet tooth and would really miss my cheese...
How easy is it to get all your nutritional requirements from a diet like that? Not being sarcastic, just dont know much about it!
When I lived in the jungle on the Big Island of Hawaii, there was a fruitarian that would constantly walk around the jungle looking for fruit. He literally looked like people from the ww2 death camps. Not a good idea,IMO.
The only place I've heard of fruititarians was in Linda Goodman's Star Signs, and the rest of the book makes me doubt the validity.
Must be crowded there. When I lived in the jungle on Oahu (mid '50s age 11/12) there was more fruit than I and the rest of the kids could make a dent in. The jungle fruit and a hand full of octopi jerky was our ration. I would be glad to try a diet of fresh coconut, papaya. and guacamole.
You would have too eat a lot of different fruit and a lot of it too get the nutrients you need. I suppose anything is possible though.
It's my impression the same holds for an all veggie diet. That's why I'm an omnivore and shall remain so.
I only eat red foods. So beef and apples are okay. But not granny smiths... Diet is one thing a lot of people sound more ignorant on than usual.
To me, there is actually such thing as too much fruit. Many fruits are high in sugar and should actually be consumed in moderation, especially those who are watching their weight. This isn't the case with vegetables, however. Fruit is definitely good, and it's very good for you, but so are fresh vegetables and lean meats. I couldn't see being able to sustain myself on fruit alone.
I agree! That's why i never make just fruit smoothies, they're way too sugary and if I do, it's more like a drink as a snack than a meal. They're way sugary. I fucking love sushi. I want to go to Morimoto here in Philly one of these days.
I've been on a fruitarian diet for just a couple of days (the one described in the article), and I felt hungry and exhausted, so I had to give it up. I suppose it's impossible to get all your nutritional requirements jsut from fruits, moreover I've heard that because fruits contain much sugar, many people even gain weight on this diet.
I've heard of this concept, Ranger. What I read said that eating root crops, or other parts of the plant which killed the plant, was as unethical as eating meat.
Sushi is my fav food. And fruit...yea.. fruit can be healthy, esp. grapes and berries but there is sugar in it. Right now I am not eating any fruit because I'm not consuming any sugar but I'm soon going to be done with my cleanse and after that I'll go back to what I was doing before-having one serving of fruit a day. Now, veggies... (except white potatoes), I can eat as many of them a day as I want. And I like veggies better anyways... I can't wait tho til I can start putting berries in my protein shakes again tho! and no... i can't imagine eating only fruit... this is all in my mind (i think) but i'd imagine id start fermenting.
