Is it possible, or how hard is it, to hop on board a train and stoaway across the country, like they did in the 30's? Id like to do that from ontario to BC this summer, but i want to know if thats feasible.

Oh yeah, it's very feasible. Tons of people rely on it for getting around the country. I recommend reading Hopping Freight Trains In America, by Duffy Littlejohn.

Also, check out this forum: http://www.digihitch.com/forum-34.html

You shouldn't do it alone, though. At least your first few times.

Just don't try getting on the train from the front. The back is somewhat saffer. There don't seem to be as many trains running as there used to be and it's hard to say when the trains are going to be running down the tracks.

alot of kids do it still. but they are a hardened lot. its still safer to hitchhike. if you do hop a train, first get the train schedule, cus you can die, or end up in the wrong place. bring a knife, and water, and nothing valuable. and please dont try to get on or off a moving train, just go to the station, aquire a scedule, and wait for your move. and dont be seen.
