Just bought a terabyte external hard drive and want to start ripping my favorite movies to it. Do any of you know of any good/free programs to use? Suggestions would be most appreciated, thanks.
Sadly, according to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), it is illegal to circumvent the copy protection of DVDs even if you own the original. Many of us think this law is wrong, but still, it is the law.
This is strictly for backup copies. And for watching in my bedroom. I have a 24" monitor and surround sound in there. Anyway I'm perfectly capable of finding one on my own. Just wanted to know if anyone had suggestions as downloading software you never heard of from the internet can be risky.
I don't mean to be a badass, but I'm pretty sure the DMCA prohibits making backup copies of copy-protected movies.
Just pooled this from http://club.myce.com so it doesn't prove anything. But they had a link for DVDFab which I have heard of, so I will just try that. Thank anyway media police.
I use a program called "Handbrake" to make backups of my DVD collection, which allows me to copy multiple soundtracks and subtitles while reducing the size, usually around 700 MB, and retaining quality. I store my backups on a 4 TB NAS drive, where I can quickly and easily access any video I wish without having to handle or damage the original DVD which I store safely away.
