Fred Thompson was late getting into the Presidential Race. Nobody seems sure why. It's almost like he was reluctant and had to be convinced. Well now it turns out his chief fundraiser, adviser, and very close personal friend is a convicted drug smuggler (11 lbs of ganja), and has been a scam artist since the '70s. He opened one shady business after another, and closed them when the heat got too close. He scammed people out of millions of dollars, enough to set himself up on his own island off the coast of Alabama. He's got a $4.7 million house there built on his scams. He has so many liens against him from those who've been swindled, they can't even be counted! So now he has resigned, and Thompson was quoted today as saying he doesn't expect to win. Well Duh! His candidacy was obviously just another scam dreamed up by his "close friend", advisor, whatever to bilk millions from Republicans. They never expected to win, just to scam all that money, which they would NOT use for the campaign (he's spent very little so far of what he's taken in). They were just planning on pocketing or moving around those millions to their own benefit. I supposed if Thompson DID get elected, then you'd see one scam after another, probably enough to make Bush seem like a saint. In fact this advisor seems a lot like Rove, and it makes one reflect upon the nature of our presidential election process. Can it be that our leaders, rather than being annointed by some all powerful group of elite megalomanics are instead nothing more than two-bit scammers who just happened to find the right scam to get elected? When you think about Bush, Rove and Cheney, we give them and their supposed Elite backers way too much credit. So many conspiracy theorists see power in the shadows, when in fact the only power these ppl have is the ability to pull the wool over our eyes, as every successful scammer does. So all we need to do is to start viewing EVERY presidential candidate (in fact nearly every politician) as a scammer, with professional scammers managing their campaigns. When viewed in that light, we know not to believe ANYTHING they say, we know they are UP TO NO GOOD, we know they ONLY WANT TO BENEFIT THEMSELVES. And to view these candidates/politicians in ANY OTHER WAY is deceive/delude yourself. Bush & Cheney have proved this theory to be true. Now what are we going to do about it?
y'know, that isn't too bad of an idea (running a sham candidate to bilk donations). The fed. election boards and such would be a hassle, but i don't see why you wouldn't be able to get away with it (especially if you set up a bunch of 501-k's). and, in the end, you're shifting money away from republicans and towards something semi-productive (a 4 mil. house creates a lot of jobs).
His campaign was/is simply a diversion against Paul I think. If you watched the debates or read the transcripts he was given more time to reply and more media coverage. It's to transfer focus, and so far it's been successful.
To think this dirtbag appeared on an episode of the best sitcom ever, Roseanne! Funny thing is, he basically played himself: a dirtbag.
Yes, what they don't spend traveling around the country, staying in 1st class hotels, partying it up every night, they pay to "consultants" who pocket tons of money for telling Thompson things like "smile more" or "pretend you're Reagan"... At this point the never-ending election cycle is the only thing keeping the networks alive! Their ad revenues would be a fraction without all those campaign dollars...
Sad thing is, I believe this nation is stupid enough to fall for his sham and vote for him. He's ahead in SC, and all the polls support him in Tennessee. Yea, I've been watching a lot on this election, and we're doomed no matter who wins.
I hope rudy gets elected so we can here more about the time that he beat up all the terrorist and ran into the burning red hot metal and saved a bunch of diseased orphans.
Rudy might have a hard time getting elected now. His Mafia connection, Kerik just got indicted on 18 counts...
