Forums are faceless discussion (hint, why my face is below)... so many folks are inclined to discuss the undiscussable - let out their true feelings... and many folks are inclined to use their anonymity in an entirely manipulative way. Personally, I'm here to use otherwise wasted brainpower... while sharpening my braintool Yes, an extremely interesting mix indeed
A forum's just going to be like any other place where people banded together. There are some differences sure. No telling how many thousands of marriages myspace has formed.
How can you waist time? Is it a new fashion trend? Forums are just places for discussions... much better discussions than people usually have in so called "real life". I would have gone insane during my teen years if it wasn't for this forum, since there was an extremely little amount of intelligent people in the Honduras where I spent my youth. There should be a branch of sociology devoted to the internet and internet communication though, with that I do agree. It's fascinating.
The underlying psychology behind internet forums is elaborate because it offers another level of complexity above and beyond our public and private persona. For most people the personality they create on the internet is healthy fantasy, but for those suffering from low self-esteem, the internet personality is more of a burden because it too can become a target for attack (whether real or imagined) Notice how some people get angry to the point of obsession when challenged, it’s the minds response to preserve the personality they've created in cyberspace hotwater
Yeah, I'm pretty much the same in so called "real life". I'm just a tad more eccentric and lively in real life... yet such things are a tad hard to transmit over the internet.
The ceremony would have to be performed in Massachusetts to make it legally binding, but New Hampshire and a few other states have begun to recognize civil unions hotwater
Actually, I find posts around here to be very revealing. The people who dish out BS are easy to see. Also when people post on a variety of topics you can see a very real part of themselves expressing. I also notice that some of my own posts show parts of me that I need to work on. I also am more open here than I am with people in real life. No doubt marketers are studying this place right now. Probably with some sociologists to figure out how to make money with all of this.
i was going to say the same thing! i mean, i am, but its different when it's written out and you can't see my facial expression. sometimes i think my posts make me come across as a bitch, i'm actually a pretty bubbly person in "real life." except when i'm drunk. then i'm a sarcastic bitch. most of my posts make me laugh, but i think most times i am the only one who finds them funny. and i'm ok with that. :H anyway, i'm pretty fascinated with the forum sociology myself. its funny that people try so hard to portray themselves as someone, especially when it's obvious that they are not. it's pretty easy to figure out what people are about, sometimes more so than meeting someone in real life, because it's all written out for the world to read and dissect. thats why most of my posts are short. except for this one.
i've long come to accept the fact that i'm really a much bigger asshole than i ever wanted to believe. i'm not different in real life, except that i have the benefit of not having to hear or read what i just said in real life.
I was actually being sarcastic when I said that. I'm actually really pensive in person. That's the biggest difference between my online persona and here. I think You and Stinkfoot are the posters who make me laugh out loud much.
