When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. To follow pattern more easily, circle all numbers pertaining to your size before beginning. Flattering Dress - Lion Brand® Homespun® GAUGE: 14 sts + 20 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in reverse St st (p on RS, k on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. NOTES: The Back and Front are worked sideways. Sideways knits have a general tendency to stretch lengthwise. Finished length after hanging will be approximately 25 percent longer than just-finished piece laid flat. Before beginning pattern, circle all numbers pertaining to your size for ease in working. DRESS BACK With larger needles, cast on 74 sts for right side seam, work even in reverse St st AT SAME TIME Create Side Slit: Row 1 (RS) P 53, k 21. Row 2 Knit. Repeat these 2 rows 6 times total - slit made. Create Lower Border: Row 1 (RS) P 70, k 4. Row 2 Knit. Next Row P 70, k 4. Following Row (RS) at end of row, cast on 35 (for Sizes 2X and 3X, cast on 38) for right armhole - 109 (109, 109, 112, 112) sts. Continue as established, following new border layout: RS Row P 105 (105, 105, 108, 108), k 4. WS Row Knit. Work even for 75 (85, 95, 107, 120) rows; piece should measure 18 (20, 22, 23½, 27) inches from beg. At beg of RS row, bind off 35 (35, 35, 38, 38) sts for left armhole. Work even on remaining 74 sts for 3 rows. Work slit on remaining 12 rows. Bind off. FRONT Cast on 74 sts for left side seam. Work as for Back through first armhole shaping 109 (109, 109, 112, 112) sts. Work even for 18 (22, 28, 32, 38) rows. Shape Neck On next RS row, bind off 5 sts (for Sizes 2X and 3X, work 6 rows, dec 1 st at neck edge on each row). *At end of next WS row, dec 1 st, at beg of following RS row, bind off 2 sts; repeat from * until 33 sts total have been dec; 76 (76, 76, 79, 79) sts remain. Work other side to correspond, at neck edge alternating inc 1 st or 2 sts every row, until there are 109 (109, 109, 112, 112) sts. (Remember for Sizes 2X and 3X to work last 6 inc rows inc one st at each neck edge row.) Work even for 18 (22, 28, 32, 38) rows more. Beg of next RS row, bind off 35 (35, 35, 38, 38) sts for right armhole, then continue right side border and slit rows as for Back left side. SLEEVE (knitted conventionally) With smaller needles, cast on 35 (35, 35, 39, 39) sts. Work in k1, p1 rib for 2 inches, end WS. Change to larger needles and continue in reverse St st, inc one st each end every 4th row 15 (15, 15, 16, 16) times, every 6th row 3 times - 18 (18, 18, 19, 19) inc made, 71 (71, 71, 77, 77) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 21 inches from beg (or desired sleeve length plus 3 inches). Bind off loosely. FINISHING Sew Front to Back at shoulders. With RS facing and circular needle, beg at right shoulder seam, pick up and knit approximately 28 (28, 28, 30, 30) sts along left back neck, 39 sts (41 for 2 larger sizes) along right center front, 1 st at center of “V inches, 39 (41) sts for right center front, place marker; 107 (113) sts or odd number. Working in k1, p1 rib (making sure center neck st is knit st) work in rib to within 1 st of center st, slip 2 sts together (at same time) as if to knit, k 1 st, pass two slipped sts over together (one stitch dec on each side of center knit st) continue in rib. Continue in this manner, working center dec every round for 7 rounds. Bind off in rib. Sew sleeves to Front and Back, leaving the bound off sts free. Sew bound off sts to 3 inches top side of sleeves on each side. Sew sleeve and side seams, leaving slits open.
