I love to be barefoot, wouldn't have it any other way. My parents frown upon it, but what do they know? Anyways after being tortured by shoes all my life, my fourth and fifth toes are now hammertoes, and this makes me sad. I want to restore my toes to what they're naturally supposed to look and function. Conventional measures, such as little pads or "straighteners" won't work permanently, so my only hope is through surgery, which is VERY minor and effective. What do you think?

VERY expensive as well. You could just go barefoot a lot more. It'll take a while but your feet could well adapt and rectify themselevs.

Yes well, shouldn't be extremely expensive, but cost is a big factor. However going barefoot won't restore them to their natural positions, but they will adapt.

If I were you I'd give your feet a summer vacation from shoes. You're sure to see a big improvement once your muscles and tendons are free to flex without the confines of constricting footware. The pic. in your gallery looks like typical feet yearning to be free. Tell your parents you want to avoid surgery and barefooting is the sensible way to rectify the damages shoes have done to your toes. You won't get instant results but you will see steady improvement. Let the group know how this works out for you.

Yeah I suppose. One thing is though, that I haven't actually worn tennisshoes for a long time, just sandles. I've read up on toe problems, and they curl because the tendons never had a chance to naturally develop, and are too short for the lenth of the toe. They've already been set in for a long time, so it's a hit or miss chance that they'll restore themselves. I'll give surgery a wait for now.

I would have also recommended going barefoot more often. It sounds like you would need to do more than that though,if the tendons are too short. I do yoga and believe me,it does wonders. My first thought, was maybe you could try some yoga type stretches for the feet? It would atleast keep the tendons more relaxed and may even loosen them up a bit. Either way,I hope you can find some solutions and save yourself from the surgery.
