Hey. I don't really post on this forum much, dunno why. It's a pretty cool forum actually. I mainly use it for some info etc. Well anyways, "SWIM" or w/e you say... lol... started 4 PF cakes last week and they are THRIVING!!! Swim used full pint jars instead of 1/2 pints, cuz those are so damn small. Surprisingly, none of the jars have recieved any contamination signs... And already about half of the inside is covered in whiteness. It isn't a super thick white yet, but it's very rhizomorphic looking, and spreading by the day. Needless to say, Swim is very proud. He used this heating rock that plugs into the wall, and just put the jars in a box with the rock. It is probably 85-90 degrees in the box. Ok.... 3 questions. 1. How long does it usually take to show contamination? 2. By taking the jars out with bare hands (Lid is on, Foil also over top), does it increase the chances of contamination? Doesn't seem like it so far. (Examine for about 1 minute each night) Swim doesn't wash his hands most of the time either, stupidly. He was just super sterile for the beginning process. 3. Heh... Swims grandmother is coming down on the 3rd for 9 days. If the cakes are ready to birthe, can it still wait a few days? I ask this because his G-ma will be staying in his room. haha. So far it seems so damn easy... Don't see how people get contaminations all the time. Swim didn't even use a pressure cooker btw, boiled/steamed for 1 hour. Shit, quick 4th question. If you dunk and roll, could you possible just put ice in the container instead of refriderating? Swim has little bros.
Don't use swim it's annoying. Takes 2days to a week depenind on what tek you use to innoculate the jars. Yes handling the cakes does increase the chance of contamination, but the risk of your hand is far less important that find contaminated jars and removing them from the others...just wash your hands that's all. Yes you can hold off birthing the cakes, but don't let it go over a week if you can. Umm....that's great, try using rye and casing. Cakes are small time learning/hide from your parents tek... If it take longer than a 2 weeks then dunk, if you do dunk just refridgerate some water for a few hours, then take th water out add the cakes and place the water and cakes in your room for 12 hours then remove the cakes (no longer than 48 hours) J.C
Swim is being used for legal purposes. He has been in enough trouble already, and doesn't need any more. I know it's annoying. It's even more annoying typing it. heh. Thanx a lot for your help though. Appreciated.

SWIM's not going to save you. It just won't hold up in court. Depends on when you get the contam. Usually a couple days or so. It's not great, but not horrible. Just start washing your hands. Maybe. I've seen cakes accidentally pin before, and if they do, they need to be birthed that minute. Yeah, any kind of cooling will work. Do as the guy above said.
