I toked with a friend abotu 2 weeks ago and found a few seeds in his ganj. So i decided to go ahead and take them with me and plant them, jsut for fun. I did it just as an experiment, I never thought the seeds would actually sprout! Now I am so damn excited! Even if the plants don't make it, turn out to be crappy weed (likely), or are all male, it is still awsome. It is a great break from the boring life I have right now...and I might not be needing to rely on crappy dealers in the future!!!! :jester: Anyway, i am 8 days into the experiment and here is what I got: I started them out on the windowsill, but I can't do that anymore for many reasons, so i moved them to the closet. I have a 24W flourescent (= to a 100W incandescent) bulb placed 3" above the sprouts. I am going to leave the light on for about 18 hours a day and i am going to transfer the sprouts into seperate, larger pots soon (I just need to get potting soil first). Wish me luck! :jester: Note: sorry about imageshack if it doesn't work...my first time using it
Seperate them, quick, before the roots get all tangled up!!! One pot - one plant! Read, read - study, study - learn, learn!
They are now in seperate, bigger pots. Each has its own light, plus I have a larger flourescent tube light on the cieling of the closet for when they get bigger. I've read up on growing and I was wondering when the earliest is that they can be sexed and how to sex them acuratly. All the stuff I have read has giant confusing words and give crappy pictures, anyone know a way to explain it easily?

This is the "Sticky" on identifying males and females, from the "techniques" section. You should read all the stickies - that's were all the good information is!
thanks, I actually searched the forums and didn't find anything, and I musthave overlooked that thread when I looked in the growers section. Also, those pictures look like very mature plants. I need to know how to sex them way before that so I can kill the male plants and keep the female. Anyone have pics of plants in the earliest stages that you can tell if they are male or female?
Hmmmm. Off the top of my head I would say 6 weeks - maybe. Females tend to show first, males may not. The best way is to either pinch the tops, after about 4 nodes, or bend the tops over via twist ties. Grow the side branches out 3 nodes, clone and then sex them with the ole 12/12.
Thanks, I actually found a good site with good pics that says to wait till they have 6-7 pairs of leaves and then cover one of the lower branches with black paper so it only gets 12/12 light. This way the rest of the plant can grow normally and the growing process won't take as long. Anyone else do this?
The first in my weekly update, Week 2: They are between 3-4" tall and are growing their 2nd set of serrated leaves.
U saying I should lower the lights? Can anyone help: In a span of half a day everything is going wrong!!! I found small redish/brown bugs in my pots. There are only a few and they are too big to be mites, but I have no clue what they are. Also, there is some greenish thing on the surface of the pots. I bought organic insecticide/fungicide in one and I sprayed it on a little bit ago. The first pair of the serrated leaves are curling upward on the edges. I thought it might be because they are too hot so I bought a small fan (even though the websites i read up on said that a fan wasn't needed if you open the closet door a bunch and it is a small closet) and its on right now. When I went to the local hardware store and went to their garden dept. I told the guy i was growing indoor veggies. He said the reason they were probablly curling is that I am over watering them (he also said that is probablly the reason for the green stuff). So I got a little soil humidity tester and he said to make sure to keep the plants between "dry" and "moist" but not too far on either side. Right now they are a little on the moist side, but not too bad. I also went ahead and got a PH tester and the PH is around 6.75 (the things I have read say keep it between 6.5 and 7.5). Any suggestions for me?
Different plants have different water needs - marijuana likes a "dry" cycle in between waterings. Hold off on watering untill the leaves become soft and just begin to show signs of wilting - then feel how light the pot is when it's dry. It should almost be light as a feather - that's too dry! The trick is to water just before the plant begins to wilt. You can do this by judging the weight of the pot, a little practice and you will get used to it. When you do water, add the water slowly - a bit at a time - give it time to soak in, then add a little more. When watered properly the whole pot is evenly saturated (heavy) and just a few drops trickle out the drain holes at the bottom. Flourescent lights can be kept as close to the plant as you can get them without actually touching, 2-3 inches is reasonable. They lose a lot of power as the distance increases. From a theoretical optimum distance of (let's say 1"); every time you double the distance, you divide the light energy by 4. So at 2" the light energy is 1/4, at 4" it is 1/16 and at 8" the light energy is only 1/64 as strong.
^ Hey Buddy missed ya for a bit! When you get a bit more of an "eye" for the girls you will be able to watch the lower part of the plant and they will tell you when to water. The lower leaves will droop telling you "water me!" Light diminishes to the square of the distance. Remember try not to mother them too much - they only need small amounts of nutes until they get larger.
OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD! NOOOOOO! HELP PLEASE OH GOD HELP!! This plant is wilting, has a brown long scar on one of the leaves and has dark green spots on the top and bottom of the leaves and it is losing color. Another plant is wilting worse and curling on the sides and is also losing color. And another plant has a red rash-type thing on the underside of the leaves. All the plants seem flimsy and weak. I sprayed the fungi/pesticide thing but it has done nothing so far. HELP! PLEASE RESPOND ASAP!
theres an easier way if you have a little room ... keep vegging then when there a month old you take one clone from each of them and put the clones under 12-12 light 12-on-12-off they will show there sex clearly in a few weeks in the mean time the rest of you plants are still puting on size and when you know what they are you just remove the males then flower the rest
Lol they are becoming like my babies! They are doing a litle better though, so hopefully I killed whatever was plauging them.
It is an excellent hobby. Gardening in general does it for me. BTW everytime I read your sig I keep thinking of Star Trek "Jim, I'm just a doctor!"
