Hey any of you guys ever try using a firewall? I set one up for the first time this morning, and in a matter of a few hours noticed 188 attempts to tap my p.c. for info. 9 of these were considered potentially malicious attempts to access my computer.

I just got online again, and just this second checked the number of attempts to access my computer 262 attempts to access my flies. I have the zone alarm free version and it's easy- and works like a charm.

Thought that might outta be shared here, im sure one of them could have been the fuzz- you never know- BUT I'm tired of spammmers- which is mostly who reapetedly try to access peoples P.C.'s.. But you never know.

And my P.C> all of a sudden acts like it should, click on something and it pops right up. No shit them fuc*&rs are dragging us down.

I have avg anti virus free version, by grisoft- it is an exellent anti virus, but lately i been getting trojans, probly because i have msn mess. But I have good friends i talk to there, so the firewall was the best option, and im so glad i did it i came here to tell you about it after having two teeth pulled an hour and a half ago.

But i also run ad aware- a spyware program that detects the little info theiving bugs, but without the firewall, they come back like bees to the hive.
Becha i dont find any more from adaware now that i got firewall. I am in stealth mode so no one can recognise me when surfin either

Directly related if you ask me- I practcally live on this site, and george's, but my growing closet is 10 feet away from my computer, Im legal but they might want to test that in court- so im like, maybe a firewall is not a paranoia thing.

actually, anyone coming here should consider one.

Using a firewall has really enabled me to utilize the full potential of my pc. I can control the in and output of information and I know what's going on all of the time. I double firewalled myself and find it interesting which programs will pick up what. I am using MacAfee which is their standard suite that comes free with AOL broadband. I too use Zone Labs Zone Alarm and find it picks up on more things then MacAfee does.

I run into similar situations with using spam removers. I run LavaSoft Ad Aware and AOL's Spyware program and they pick up different things.

I kind of look at maintaining a computer the same way as maintaining a car. You have to schedule tasks like oil changes, tire rotation, etc. On a pc you can schedule system scans and things of that nature. You always want to protect your investment and keep it running the best it can in both situations and when you keep it up it runs better and faster.

The reports of intrusions or attempts on your computer are nothing really. Its either spyware or a webpage that requests certain info be it cookies etc. Its most likely not someone looking on your computer.

I have had three trojan horse viruses in the past 4-6 weeks, and some attempts to hack in. But I agree, they are mostly spammers trying to get more addresses, more than likely. I got a business and website- it is best to cover that ass.
My how my P.C. seems to work 100% better though. If i click the mouse it actually loads a page almost instantly, instead of two minutes later like it used to..L.O.L.

and i got tired of kicking the same ol spiders out with adaware, figure this firewall will slam the door in their face.
