what a day, we have baked 5 loaves of bread, rolls, scalloped potatoes and ham, baked spaghetti, squash, baked potatoes, meatless meatloaf, muffins and a cake. cleaned and canned 26 quarts of potatoes and in the middle had one of the pressure canners blow a over pressure valve (it was old) and had to recan 7 quarts, and 6 pints of salsa verde. on the grill we cooked, a huge batch of sourdough pancakes, big thing of pinto beans a big thing of rice and a big thing of potatoes.. we have the last batch of potatoes being canned now. you wouldnt think feeding a fire for 11 hours would wear a person out but it sure as hell will. ahh well that will be all the baking for a couple 3 weeks or so.. it wouldnt have been near as bad had the canner not blew its wad..lol gotta get the part and fix it soon, maters are gonna be comin in big time soon.. so how was yalls day? busy busy??
I supported some farmers by going to the grocery store instead I also went to the dump to look for anything good I painted one of my snowplows I put tire chains on one of my four wheelers I fixed a snowblower I tried to fix a friends airconditioning but needed to order parts I picked up a bunch of garbage I went and picked some blueberries for a lunch snack I went to the mailbox
Baking? In summer? I hope you live in the East. If i baked here I could make a swimming pool from the sweat of my ass. Though that could be beneficial, going swimming in the summer is always rad.
I worked a little while past my time to get off, mostly just because I had nothing better to do, and it was free money. We had a full crew and I was just hanging around as the shift manager because the store manager was on the phone with her boss and I didn't want the kids having to run back there and bug her for stupid shit, lol. Then it was pay day! Yaaay! Then I came home, and roomie finally got ahold of our guy, so we have smoke again! And now I'm here.
HHB that actually sounds like a nice cookout, exhausting cookout but fun. A friend got into a wreck Wednesday while I was in the car, totally fucking up the driver side of his Suburban. Went to a mechanic friend of mine to see a good estimate for the cost of repairs.
we bake in a brick oven outside under the carport,it has a grill attached to it where we cook the other stuff and do our canning. its not too bad heat wise..of course it only got to around 80 here today..
not really...I slept till noon thirty, took my mom shopping, and am going dancing now.... kinda laissez faire this summer.
lol, well thats for a couple three weeks as i said.. its easier to do it all at once than to have to heat the oven up all the time..
Nothing much really. Built a picket fence over on the southside, then cooked up a little pizza, and went with a friend to see The Orphan. I'm kinda tired now. No reason really. Just lazy summer days I suppose.
yesterdays lasagna ... microwave ... 30 seconds ... high ... bam ... baking done for the day. a lot easier than lighting a fire. less dangerous too. i hear fire hurts.
ahh yes,, and done. the last thing just came out of the oven and the last batch of quarts just came off the grill.. time for a smoke ..
thank you dave.. :cheers2: its also a renewable resource and by managing a healthy woodlot the trees themselves offset the carbon released by burning the wood... or at least thats what i have read.
