Feb 1, 2019 - world is scheduled to end??

Is it true that on Feb 1, 2019 the world is scheduled to end?

Scientists have discovered an asteroid, 2002 NT7, which may possibly strike Earth on Feb 1, 2019. It's thought to be large enough to destroy a continent on impact.

 

the use of the word "destroy" is invariably hyperboli. commetary impacts are possible of course. that much notice there may be several measures taken to remove or mitigate the risk.

what WOULD a large commetary impact actualy do? it would certainly effect many things. it did reverse the fortunes of reptiles vs mammels, or at least that's one supposition that might have signifigantly contributed to that reversal.

but how exactly did it do that? there were, as i under stand it a number of chainges in atmospheric conditions. other then areas directly impacted, i think we're already having precisely many of those same kinds of effects now by the combination of our numbers and the amount per each of us combustion is being used to generate energy and propell transportation.

i don't believe, such and impact, were it to occur, would resault in the total loss of breathable atmosphere or liquid water. that means that many species, including our own, whould likelly survive. as indeed our mammalian ancestors survived the reversal of fortunes of mega reptiles.

yes the landscape would be signifigantly altered on the hemisphere on which the impact occured. some species would undoubtedly be lost and others gain new advantage.

such an impact would certainly be signifigant, but details are never as ambiguous and arbitrary as language is capable of when used without a bit of reasonable restraint.

if you're taking odds i'll place mine on about 6 or 7 to one against. and that i suspect is being quite generous.

i can tell you something that WILL happen though; in 2008 we will either have a different president in the u.s. or the current u.s. constitution will no longer be rationaly considered to prevail. and come 2012, hopefully, we will also have another presidential election.

hopefully also at some point in my life the u.s. will have a president who is neither male nor 'christian' nor 'conservative'.

The world itself won't end (geological processes will continue to do what they do); the world as we know it will end regardless.

Crowley once said that the universe is the macrocosm of the nervous system; if that bold statement is a truism than your universe will end when life leaves your body (ie your specifically unique viewpoint will vanish, and that particular take on the universe will be gone).

as IF my life or yours, was the beggining and end of anything. MAYBE our own lives. MAYBE.

to me it is increadably gratuitously egotistical to equate ourselves, even collectively as a species, with all of existence, even on our own one planet.

I mean, I'd like to survive, but knowing that the rest of the world would be better off would be enough for me to die peacefully. Hopefully, when that asteroid comes, I'll already be somewhere else.

I actually heard the same thing yesterday on Daily Planet actually, ITS TRUE.

Apparently they're designing this satellite that when the asteroid comes, this satellite will fire rockets or something at it to knock it off course. Somehow, at the same time of impact, a rover will be released onto the asteroid to track it's direction.

 

that would be freaky... but it would be a good thing for the rest of the world. except i would be dead. and everyone would miss laina! lol. jk.

 

I could be wrong here... but I believe the mayan calender ends in 2012 i believe in december??? cant really remember and thats when the world is suppose to end? anyone ever here this
