What are everyone's favorite psychedelic/weird songs? The ones that really just blow your mind? Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds "Sulufane flowers of yellow and green towering over your head" Come Together "He wear no shoe-shine he got, toe jam football he got, monkey finger he shoot, coc-cola" Mellow Yellow "E-lec-trical banana, is gonna be a sudden craze..." I think there's more, but a movie i wanna watch is coming on, so meh...
The Doors - "The End" "Father? Yes son? I want to kill you." "Mother? I want to... fuck you!" Yeah, that's pretty damn "weird." I'll think of more later.
my favourite weird (and psychedelic) songs from the sixties: - the first half of the album 'the crazy world of arthur brown', by arthur brown - anything by frank zappa - the intro to jimi hendrix' album 'axis: bold as love' - pink floyd (with syd barrett) - scream thy last scream - the doors - go insane (first demo, recorded in 1965) (the title says it all) - the rolling stones - in another land (the weirdest song the stones ever recorded) - the velvet underground - european son (and many other songs) - the beatles - revolution #9 (yes i know, this is considered the worst beatles song, but i like it!) - captain beefheart - electricity (and many other songs) - the blues magoos - dante's inferno (psychedelic, weird and scary!) - monocles - the spider and the fly (i don't like this song, but it's so weird, i just had to mention it) - the bees - voices green and purple (this band recorded and released only one single (in 1966), and this was the a-side; without a doubt the weirdest song from the sixties! a note on the cover of the single says: "For best results listen to this in total darkness".)
The Velvet Underground - "Venus In Furs" Severin, Severin, speak so slightlySeverin, down on your bended kneeTaste the whip, in love not given lightlyTaste the whip, now plead for me The Velvet Underground - "The Gift" Then she sank down to her knees, grasped the cutter by both handles, took a deep breath, and plunged the long blade through the middle of the package, through the masking tape, through the cardboard, through the cushioning and (thud) right through the center of Waldo Jeffers head, which split slightly and caused little rhythmic arcs of red to pulsate gently in the morning sun. The Velvet Underground - "Sister Ray" Who's that knockingWho's that knocking on my chamber doorCould it be the police? They come and take me for a ride-rideBut I haven't got the time-timeShe's been sucking on my ding-dongShe's busy sucking on my ding-dongJust like Sister Ray said Pink Floyd - "Astronomy Domine" Lime and limpid green, a second sceneA fight between the blue you once knew.Floating down, the sound resounds Around the icy waters underground. Syd Barrett - "Octopus" Hey ho, never be still The old original favorite grand Grasshoppers green Herbarian band And the tune they play is "In Us Confide" The Crazy World of Arthur Brown - "Fire" And your mind, your tiny mind, you know you've really been so blind. Now's your time, burn your mind, you're falling far too far behind. Arthur Brown / Kingdom Come - "Creation" (THE scariest song I've ever heard! ) That's all I can think of right now...
Well, yeah, I don't really see it as "weird," but I think the way Syd sings it is quite different... plus, it has Syd's unusual, odd, yet beautiful lyric style. I mean, you're not going to hear a song like "Octopus"... well... ever again I imagine.
Not from the 60's but damn fine The Mars Volta~ De Loused in the ComaTorium ~ what a beautiful album combining what I hear to be elements of Led Zeppelin, Miles Davis, Santana and MC5 soo god, and the soundscapes are great. Hats off to Omar and Cedric from ATDI, Flea, and Jon theodore, plus Rick Rubin you crazy bastard. Pink Floyd- UmmaGumma *wispers* "be careful with that axe eugene" aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !so good!.
Oh , God yes. That live version of "Careful With That Axe Eugene" is creepy. The studio version doesn't really creep me out, but that scream on Ummagumma... ooh, so scary.
that would be one of my least favourite pink floyd songs. The other songs on ummagumma (the live album, not the studio album) are nearly perfect! A Saucerful Of Secrets' is a stunning trip into space. I love to listen to ummagumma at night. Pink floyd are the masters of space rock!
The Isle of Everywhere (From Gong's YOU) Stoned Innocent Frankenstein (From Daevid Allen's LIVE FLOATING ANARCHY) Solar Fire (From Manfred Mann's Earth Band SOLAR FIRE) She Brings the Rain (From Can's SOUNDTRACKS) Sing Swan Song (From Can's EGE BAMYASI) Chapter 24 (From Pink Floyd's THE PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN) Are You Experienced (From Jimi Hendrix's ARE YOU EXPERIENCED) Purple Haze (From the same album) Prince Kajuku (From UFO's FLYING) Do You Believe in Magic (From Nektar's REMEMBER THE FUTURE) Miss Shapiro (From Phil Manzanera's 801 LIVE) And a lot more. There's tons of great psychedelic songs.
Find and listen to "Milky drops from heaven" by johnny greenwood (of radiohead). I imagine if you were to hear it while tripping, your head would implode.
-2000 light years from home and most of Satanic majesties for that matter-all tommorow's parties from the first velvet underground album (also the best in my opinion) -lucy in the sky with diamonds and i am the walrus of coarse and now im trying to think of other things cause i know i've left so much out but im sure you all will cover the rest...
pink floyd - music from the motion picture "works" clutch - their lyrics are always something screwy land of the loops smashing pumpkins - pisces iscariot sherpa, by the tragically hip - off "trouble at the henhouse"
Venus In Furs, Velvet Underground Interstellar Overdrive, Pink Floyd Tomarrow Never Knows, the Beatles and White Rabbit(just plain cool), Jefferson Airplane
too true, i love that - duno which is better tho, that one or Pompeii... ah Pink Floyd are the greatest Jaz
woah woah woah........ I dont think that there ever was a motion picture called "Works" in which pink floyd had done a soundtrack to. As far as I know, that album was released by capital records in the early 80s as a compilation of pink floyd material (which is all presented on other studio albums previously, except for Embryo, which is featured on the Harvest'Label's "Picnic, a Breath of Fresh Air", 1970.) The compilation contains more obscure gems than the EMI release of A Collection of Great Dance Songs from around the same time.
