    Ok

Who has used the shot (depo)?
    How long did you spot?
I ask 'cause I am going on 8 months now and am so sick of it that this is my last shot and after this im switching back to the patch...

I just wonder if anyone else went through this?
I havent gained weight or had any other sideeffects except for bleeding for 8 moths...I already go anemic when I was on my period so im kind of worried abotu what this constant spotting could be doing

    thanks guys

I was on depo for just under two years. I really liked it, didn't have many sideaffects. I did gain weight (ultimately the reason for stopping) and I was very moody for two days before my next shot was due. I only spotted once during those two years, didn't fully menstruate at all. My univ subsidizes it a lot, so it was only $7/3months of birth control minus the cost of pads/tampons/midol so it was also really cost effective for me.

However, a lot of women react very badly to it. in fact, reacting as well as I did is a bit of a rarity. And you aren't supposed to be on it for more than two years. It makes it harder for your body to absorb calcium so make sure you're taking calcium supplements regularly as well to keep your bones strong. Definitely weigh the pros and cons before you hop onto this birth control, it's not for everyone. If you reacted badly to the pill, you'll probably be worse on depo

I was on the depo for 3months..
    I gained 40 lbs!!!
I spotted for the first month non-stop..
My blood pressure went through the roof, and I almost had a stroke!!
My case was really harsh, and unlikely to happen to anyone eles though.. (because I get cronic migrains, and am on an anti-seizure medication)

Hey girl, I was on Depo for 3 years a while back, and I loved it. I bled for 9mo. straight at first, but then I didn't bleed for the next 3 years.

I have been on the patch, the pill, and the shot. My gyno had me try them all, but after a few months all of them ended up giving me really intense migraines, so I'm off birth control all together. It wasn't so bad with the shot as it was with everything else, but I was really moody most of the time. The pill was HORRIBLE though. I would get migraines so bad that I couldn't even stand to open my eyes every day at the exact same time, except for on my placebo week.

I've been on it for about a month and thus far I've been great...I've gained some inches, but thats mostly because I can't excersise (neck/back injury)...I've actually lost muscle weight..which sucks..but I'm surviving..It's been awesome otherwise. I had one 2 day spotting episode, but other than that theres been absolutely no problems

I've been on the Patch, the Shot and the Pill. The shot made my moods swings go outta control, caused me to gain about fifteen pounds, caused irregularly long and painful periods and basically, made my life a living hell. My best friend bled for six months. Not like spotting, I mean, she had her period for six months. She's gone off it now, but she's still all screwed up and alternates between bleeding continuely and going months without a period.

    The Pill is my friend.

yeah, im supposed to get my next shot the week after next...i dont know about it...I started spotting again tuesday (i hadnt in a few weeks) and yesterday I had cramps so bad I couldnt walk so I am just gonna go with the patch...I hate it thought, it seemed like such a good idea but I dont know how safe I would feel not having a period ever anyways...I am kind of bitter I spotted for 8 months though

Oh b4 I forget...what was yall's first period like after you got off of the shot? Im figuring mine will be a massive pain...

barely there. Like, a light day pad lasted me a whole day (I mean those ultra light ones, i usually wear 'em with a tampon in case I have leakage light). And I didn't get one until I started on the pill.

Then again, I spotted once in the whole year and a half or so that I was on the shot, and taht's cuz I was a day late getting my shot.

    lucky girl!
With the way i have been spotting, sometimes a light light one will work, but there were times a light tampon wouldnt last too long...thats why I cant take it anymore...I just randomly start spotting and dont know how heavy itll be, not to mention that I did everyday for the first 6 months and apperently i become anemic when I get my period so I really dont like it...I just wish there was and easier way...has anyone tried the nuva ring?

Glad I am a man! kinda horrible you young females have to go through that....

I can tell if a woman is fertile, or not, just by touching her lips. well, I can tell before that, but then I know for sure. I think ya'll should just go natural, and learn when you are fertile and when you are not. Then...if the stove is hot - don't touch it ! pretty simple....hate to see you going through this suffering.

I would love to be able to rely on that but my family is catholic and we dont have the best luck with natural birth control methods...my grandma had 5 kids, and she was one of 12, and I have about 25 cousins on that side of the family lol...and I have had bad luck with condoms so I'll stick with this stuff and deal with the side effects lol

dude, i hated being on depo. i know i wouldn't have nearly the struggle with weight i've been having if not for being on that shit. plus it made me terribly moody and i didn't have a period for like a year. i want my period..it's natural. so when i got off the stuff i had the worst periods for like 3 month. eff that.

I didn't read any other post, except the 1st post in the thread. So if I say something that's already been stated- sorry.

I've been on depo for 4 years. At 1st, I was bleeding non stop for a month. I was like wtf I thought this was supposed to stop bleeding. So I was like "hey what's up doc?" I was told to take 600 miligrams of ibuprofen whenever bleeding happens, & it stops the bleeding. So I've got a big bottle of ibuprofen on stand by, It really works!

I was on depo for almost 1 year, then stopped.I spotted for the first 3 months, which I hated...I then gained lots of weight, retained water, was moody and my snatch was always dry...I really didn't enjoy it as much as I thought,so I stopped using it.I am now on the pill, which I also hate.I tried the patch, but it gave me heart pains (had to go to hospital for a day)...so I was taken off that.Argh...I hate birth control all together!
