I've noticed that a lot of people on here play the guitar. Does anyone play anything a little more unusual? Any sitarists or didgeridoo players, for example? I play mandolin, which I suppose isn't so unusual to someone from the US where country and bluegrass music are so widespread. But for some reason, almost nobody in England seems to know what a mandolin is; most people think it's a small guitar or a ukulele.
I play a clay Ocarina. Not really 'exotic' so much, but rare enough that it's impossible to find music to play that doesn't come from Zelda... Basically I have to find MIDI files and extract the music notation, modify it to fit the range of my instrument, and create tabs for myself. Mostly I play Irish and Celtic stuff...
I would LOVE to have a theremin. I have messed around with one a couple of times, but am not a owner (yet). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSzTPGlNa5U"]Theremin - Clara Rockmore play "The Swan" (Saint-Saëns) - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW0B1sipLBI"]Gnarls Barkley Crazy Theremin Jam - YouTube
I used to play the six chord electric organ. It was pretty cool and easy to learn. I also really want a tanpura. They're easy to use; they can be played alone or used as background sound for sitarists.
I know a girl that plays the skin flute like crazy,....she wore a pearl necklace... I know, I know....wrong thread.....
I'm currently carving a "Cornetto Muto"( Italian) also known as a "Zink" (german) In constructing the instrument the wood is split then the tapered bore is carved and the halves are glued back together. Here's three different cornetti A narrow conical bored woodwind played with the lips like a trumpet, this instrument was the star of 14th-17th century baroque music, virtuoso performers earning higher pay than any other musician. (not a great pic here) I've nearly finished carving the bore halves, soon I'll join them and begin planing down the outside. Even though mine is a straight Cornett, it will be octagonal when finished with 6 finger holes and a thumbhole on the back. I'll let you know if I can play it when I'm done. They are said to be the most difficult wind instrument, much harder to play than even piccolo trumpet.
A friend of mine had a cd and where it lists the instrements one of them listed was an empty dorito's bag. Now im not a good musician but I know I could...and have pulled that off
^^^:smilielol5: I was gonna say if it was taco flavor, it musta been salsa music! :sombrero: Frito-lay should be paying us for all this quality copy...
Learning the Bandura, also play the Didgeridoo, also picked up this instrument the other day called a "Zither, or Ukelin" for $10! You bow the top strings, and pluck the bottom ones to make chords. Very cool little instrument.
