Some of you are saying that Psychedelic drugs can open you're mind, and some say just stay away from it. I read Timothy Leary's "Turn on Tune in Drop out" he's a scientist and is a complete advocate of the us of LSD. He think's we should all be doing it, and has thoughts about the ego being our biggest clog in what prevents all people from seeing diviniety and keeping people wrapped up in expensive car, nice house, lots of knowledge, I'm better than you type "games." I know I have those feelings everyday too, they're unstopable and they seem to be my clog to particapating in ALL kinds of creative mental functions. Then I get really stoned, and see exactly what the clog is, and exactly how it keeps us from opening up. I think of it like this, "Life always starts with two things, the things you DO, and the things you don't DO, do being the key word. Imagine a person or yourself walking up to a lady sales clerk in a grocrie store; a situation in which you have thousands of different options of what to do or not do. If we are totally uneffected by our ego, we will automatically act differently than if we are effected by it. A woman might be thinking about the sales clerks looks, comparing them to hers, comparing confidence, comparing education through speaking ability, comparing dress, comparing body type." These Do's or not DO's happen a million times a day. I just think my life would be a lot better if I never had to deal with my humanly evolved clog of an ego, so that I would never have those inevitable comparrisons in my mind. Does anyone else feel this way? We should read together if you do, and then discuss it. Feel free to email me anytime if you want to talk more indepth about it. Cheers Mates, Alex
hey alex (K?) I don't really recognize myself in what you are sayin, nor presently have great interest in the discussion you are bringing...But it is so amazing how you are like one of my friend. Hes named alex too and is an exact copy of you (if you are not him). He talks about the same subjects in the same way as you...Im sure you could discuss this kind of stuff more in depth with him! hmm i didnt know tune in , turn on and drop out was a book! And how could you be in life without an ego??? Trip on lsd (or meditate, whatever) and you can reach an ego less state.
ahhhhh your right your right but your not quite seeing what he's saying... at least to me... when i got into leary about 2 years ago and at first was convinced that the point was to give up all my attachments - school, parents, objects... it turned to be a bad place in my life. because even though i was free of some of society's hold i had simply replaced it with a new, permanent, and eventually self destructive ego. i felt superior in a way to others because i felt i had transcended the superior/inferior "game". i started selling pot thinking that I was "spreading the good vibes" but it was all still for ME. Then, after a few life changing trips, i started to see waht leary was saying. you are human you will inevitably have an ego. the trick is to play the games like a pickup game instead of taking great pride in winning or letting a loss cripple you - play for fun. he's saying to use your ego and thoughts as tools to play as many different games as possible. that includes the experience i had early on too, it was a learning experience and i learned that the only thing you can do from "unenjoyable" experiences is to learn from them. you'll soon see that your brain is capable of creating and fabricating countless realities, some far far beyond the levels of experience you ever thought possible - it is INFINITE. at the source of it though, the egoless state goes beyond any of the games to a state of simply being that is neither "good" nor "bad", considered by many to be the perfect state of the human mind (but of course that classification wouldn't apply or matter once the state is reached). once you have reached this "ego death", you will undoubtedly be reborn, but you have the option to take what you have learned and reflect it in the new ego you choose. keep an open mind, the only thing that stays the same is change.
sorry for so much words... but even if you don't see what im saying in Turnontuneindropout, it proves that he himself continued to choose different personalities and roles to play. if you read his later books, he changed interests and direction many many times, sometimes leaning towards religion, sometimes science, he was really really into virtual reality and computers, harvard psychologists, fugitive from the law... he never thought he was perfect. another HUMAN. he said one thing at the end of his life (not sure if its exact): my life is like a game of baseball, one third of my swings (things he wrote or did) were total strikes, another third were base hits, and another third were home runs. if 1/3 of your bats are home runs your doin pretty good!
I think a lot of people know about ego death, but don't really understand the ego rebirth or reconstruction.... or the fun.
