Evoloution is the most plausible explination I have heard of how the current world as I know it came to be. It's a little bit of a tough pill to swallow if you really think about it (which nobody does anymore... schools seem to forget it is still just a THEROY, not a fact) but at the same time you can see how it could have happened and it seems to jive with my own life experiences. I think it's possible that it could be part of a plan by some superior being of some kind, although I don't believe in any of the ones I've heard about.

Yes, technically it is a theory, but everything in science is. Gravity is a theory, but as far as the educated mass population is concerned it is considered fact. In that sense evolution has been proven by hard evidence and can be considered fact as well. The people who disagree with evolution are uneducated or have misconceptions about evolution. Many non-believers place there doubts on probability, when their view of what's probabilistic is inaccurate. Many people disagree with evolution because they think it contradicts religion, when it does not. Some people also think that evolution pertains to the origin of life, when it does not.

To any respectable biologist the debate over evolution is a joke, along with all those other theories, most noteably creationism, which aren't even recognized as theories in the respected scientific community. The fact of the matter is that it would take a good seven years at a university to even possibly obtain a correct grasp on evolution. And by that time you would have seen so much hard, factual evidence that you would have to be downright illogical not to agree.

yes i believe in evolution. i believe that we evolved from cells, bacteria that might have been bought by or created from explosions or meteors hitting the earth.

I believed in evolution until I saw the movie "Jesus Camp". Now, I have been reborn and delivered from my dirty, filthy sin-filled life. Evolution, global warming, Harry Potter, plastic surgery are all SATAN'S LIES!
You hippies are all going to burn in hell.

I'd rather focus on improving the present than proving the past.

the word theory, in scientific parlance, does not mean an uproved idea. it means a collection of hypotheses that are supported by relevant data. gravity is a theory, it's also a fact. cell theory is a theory, and it's a fact.
and evolution isn't 'one day we were all monkeys, then suddenly we weren't.'
it just states that if things reproduce, and if their are variations in the reproductions that are then able to be passed on to the next generation, the variations that are best suited for their environment (more or less) will have more children. after a while the differences between the variant groups will become more apparant (espically if they are genetically isolated, like the early humans), until they are no longer able to cross-reproduce.

    it ain't hard.
    and it ain't a leap.
and it isn't supposed to be an explanation of how life started, only how it's going.

I do believe that the Bible was written by humans. But I suppose it being the wod of god gives it an extra bit of credibility, don't it? :jester:

    sure. absolutely.
but the problem is humans still wrote it and humans translated it, which in alot of people's opinions ruined whatever religious purpose it could have had. I was born and raised lutheran, but im just now starting to question the whole thing. there's just too many variables, too many questionable things involved. I have no real hard stand to either side, but it seems the more I look nothing makes sense. no God, God, gods, maybe a God, evolution, ...... idk
