I know no generalization as sweeping as that is totally true, but I have to say, no one I know is really happy.
that is very very true; a good observation. a lot of people seem happy and are even convinced they are happy but then you get to know them better.
I have also noted a lot of people close to me are unhappy. Friends and family spiraling down... Things get better, how would we appreciate happiness without some form of sadness?
I guess not having something will make you appreciate it when you do get it. If not, maybe you don't deserve it...
As long as my rudder gets me to youth group every friday night then fuck all your existentialist angsty bullshit. I LOVE YOU MY LORD AND SAVIOUR
The reason most people are not happy is because they let society and culture instill in their minds a framework of what is to considered "normal." If a person does not live up to that artificial framework, they feel inferior. If a person does not have what culture and society tells them they should have, they feel inferior. I have found that people who have come to a self-realization and a realization of the world around them are rarely sad, because they understand that the matrix system they are living in is entirely artificial. Society and culture is geared towards creating feelings of inferiority and sadness. To me, there is nothing to be sad about, though I do feel much empathy for people who are suffering in this world due to whatever circumstances.
asking if anyone is really happy is a bit of an odd question because happiness is an emotion. like sadness and fear. it would be impossible for a human being to be happy all the time. it seems to be the case that we can be happy and are happy for short periods of time and then we return to the level of contentment that we are accustomed to. same thing with sadness. so while we may not be happy, we are very likely content and moreover would likely choose, or be forced by our body/brain, to remain at that level of contentment than live with a positive emotion all of the time.
that is the most idiotic fucking argument "you don't appreciate air, so you don't deserve it" is of course the logical extension, and, I dunno about you, but I haven't seen terribly many "I LOVE OXYGEN" threads lately. spouting grannies folksie wisdom may get you through your thoughtless day to day, but, that doesn't mean it's not bullshit. examine the words you spew forth.
