I'm not sure if they exist or not (I'm one of them). I mean that I'm a Floyd fan who tokes, of course, not one who doesn't.
Funny, before I found this thread, I was just about to post a thread about how it seems that Pink Floyd is always associated with drugs. Floyd plays brilliant music, so I find it annoying how some (suprisingly many) see it as muzak for their 'gettin' stoned' moments. It's also funny how a band so dark, can be so well-known. A sign for good taste in our culture?
Pink Floyd, the band we know today is beyond drugs. Roger, david, rick and nick all seem to be more down-to-earth than pretty much any band, With deep understanding of that drugs and mind alterings can impose on life. Barrett's Floyd however, is another story.
I don't smoke weed, and Pink Floyd has been my favorite band for years. I also got a couple of my friends into them, and they, too, do not smoke. I once met a guy who told me I cannot fully appreciate Pink Floyd's music unless I smoke. I was so offended by that comment, as their music has so much more depth to it than that. I later found out one of the only Pink Floyd songs he knew of was "Money." Moral of the story: those who put emphasis on the smoking of marijuana to enjoy and capture the beauty of Pink Floyd's music often barely know who Pink Floyd are.
I enjoy Pink Floyd more when I'm high, but that's just because I enjoy all music more when I'm high. BTW, I possess their entire discography up to and including the Wall (I like to pretend the albums after the Wall don't exist because Roger Waters is a bastard) so I think I know who they are.
Yeah, it's not specific Floyd. When I'm in the mood for listening music it always feels more intense after a joint.
Aswering your question, yeah,me. And i have other friends who like the band and dont smoke too. Anyway this idea is not really uncommon, one day a guy came to me and said that PF is a kind of music that a person just can listen in a stoned state of mind. He doesnt know any other song except Another Brick In The Wall,of course.
Well, I didn't mean everyone who enjoys music more while being high does not know much about the artists, but many of them don't. If I wrote down all of the people I have encountered in my life who think "getting high and listening to the Dark Side of the Moon" is all there is to Pink Floyd's music, I'd have enough pages to fill a very thick book. I don't think one has to be high to appreciate music, but that is only my opinion. I was referring mainly to people who have only heard one or two songs by Pink Floyd while high at a friend's house and think they can write their biography.
I was being somewhat tongue-in-cheek...I do not think you have to be high to appreciate Floyd's music, but let's face it, the majority of fans seem to toke a lot. The fact is that their music is, simply, amazing to listen to high. Sober too, of course, but listening to Floyd high is like no other.
I've never been high whilst listening to the floyd, but I probably will in the future. Ya know, just to get a change in perspectives. But they are amazing as hell when I listen to them.
I've only smoked weed a couple of times. None of them have been while listening to Pink Floyd. So I think that this is the proof that you need. PINK FLOYD IS NOT ALL ABOUT THE DRUGS!
