European road trip - August...HELP PLEASE!

Alright lads



In August Ill be starting my two year (maybe more maybe less) trip across Europe but for the month of August Im going to be accompanied by 2 Hungarian girls, Im 18 and the two girls are both 19 as far as I know. We will be starting in Calais (Northern France) and from there our journey is all subjective to whats going on at the time. We wont be staying anywhere more than 3 days though Id say, so aiming to cover a large amount of countries/cities/towns. Our main method of transport will be hitching, I did the same journey last year but that was with two other Irish guys. Our main accomodation will be camping.

Basically were looking for someone kind enough to give us floor space or anyone that just wants to meet up and show us around their area .


We have no qualms about camping or hitching, spent a month doing the same thing last year and we have an extremely low budget, Im going to have at most €100 leaving Ireland, will find a way of making money there. We are going to be busking hopefully. It would be nice to have a few secure places and friendly people to meet which is the purpose of this thread. Anyone interested in helping us out or meeting up just give me a shout.

At the end of August theyre going home to Pécs Ill be staying there for maybe a month but after that Ill be back on the road into Europe, most likely if I dont go to Germany (Tribe of Likatien) then Ill go to Rotterdam.

Will keep this thread updated of plans/places we might be. Even though its still 3 months away, this is going to be my travel journal as well. Another thing Im doing is the first night of area sketch something from camp looking out from the tent which will also be another form of documenting it. Only doing this till the end of August though as after that Ill consider myself living there rather than travelling.

Might be able to help out in Paris and Berlin. And I have friends in Barcelona that may be able to share some space.

 

Paris and Berlin would be great, not sure if were going to actually make it to Spain as the three girls only have a month to travel and hitching down to Spain and back would take too long but well see what the story is closer to August.

We hadnt thought about Scandinavia yet but if theres time or depending on where the road leads then anything is possible. Will send you a pm if that direction is looking good

Also update:
As August is only the time when Ill be accompanied, after that Im on my own, obviously not wanting to hitch and sleep in a tent for the Winter months, Ive opted to stay with the Tribe of Likatien in Fussen, Southern Germany.

They are a 200+ strong tribe of men, women and children who have their own currency, self sufficiency and a strong community that see nature as god. Welcoming and open commune so Im going to offer work or help in any way I can for refuge and food for the cold season. After that Im hoping to get in contact with other communes and tribes and travel nomadically between them.

 

hey, good luck. i did the European road trip the summer after high school. it was great. no problem getting rides. and people were really nice. in France and Italy especially.

some advice: don't get into cars that offer you a ride on their own. those drivers tend to be a bit 'weird'.

 

I should be in Swabia next sommer (south de) and I will probably be coming from England to France to Holland to Germany, that's my route at the moment.
