a trusted friend of mine told me awhile back that using epson salt
to soak/wash your hair makes it dread faster and better.

is there any truth to this?

wouldnt say that salt cleans dreads but dries out built up oils so can make knots tighten slightly faster
but should be rinced out well, leavin salt in can dammage hair and can build up
used sparingly as needed though it does tighten up locks in early stages

yeah use sea salt. i think normal table salt probably works as well but it's like iodized or something like that. i normally dip my head in a bucket of sea salt water and then rinse it out the next day. i heard it can really make your head itchy

I've stopped using salt now (I used sea salt, the only to use on locking hair). The dandruff was insane.

Although, on reflection, I really do think it was helping, as everything has loosened up big time since I stopped. But the dandruff was seriously embarrassing. Some flakes were 1 square cm, which is huge for a piece of bright white skin to be floating in your hair, not to mention the other 50 pieces at the same time. Not to mention the bad itches either.

So there's a big difference between using Epson salt and sea salt?

.. and I don't live by any sea or ocean, so how do I get a hold of some? :p

Any large grocery store should have sea salt in the cooking/spice section. If you want absolutely pure sea salt, check the ingredients. I know, you don't expect anything but salt to be in that carton, but some brands add anti-caking agents to fine sea salt.

There's a health foods co-op around me that sells bulk sea salt for cheap.
