anyone ever watch this HBO flick? It's pretty good. Its follows the lives of highschool students during a school shooting. I thought it was realistic for the most part. And the shots were so well planned out, I cant explain what I mean, but if you've seen it you know what I'm talking about. The movie has alot of walking scenes which i thought took away from the movie. I feel like they were imortant to establish that it was a normal day in any highschool, but I constantly wanted to know what was next. I guess it added to the thrill. This movie really grabbed me. My friend emily was crying at the end of it.
At it's core, Elephant is Gus Van Sant's commentary on Columbine and other school shooting tragedies...how any normal day can turn into the most horrific day of a kid's life. And that the reasons behind these tragedies are not easily explained or understood. I saw it in 2003 at the theater. It was very powerful on the big screen. All the kids in it were actual high school kids. I think that added a lot to the feeling of reality it presents.
Yeah it's one of my favorites, everything just looks so real. I love how time works in the movie. does anyone know what happens to the photographer?..i forgot his name.
I saw it and thought it was pretty good. From what I read the cast was filled with non-actors and had improvisational parts to it. The walking scenes that Jonee talked about also made the movie seem to drag on for me as well. All in all it was worth seeing.
great movie , shokking , but in a good way....ya know? youre not afraid to go to bed but youre thinking bout it all the time...shit, this shit can happen,it happened before and well, you can tell yourself it's not happening to you , the people of col.high didn't saw it coming neither eh?? oh,preaching again....sorry!! cheerio
well the point of the movie is that you DON'T/CAN'T know whan it is goign to happen or who is goign to do it...
i liked it...although I didn't really understand the message of the movie,really... is it about that this could happen to you?!or kids with mental problems?!or what? tell me your opinion about the message...
i thought "Elephant" was such crap. i remember reading the reviews and thinking it was going to be really wonderful, and all my hopes were squashed. i love my indies and my movies with depth, but this one just didnt do it for me. it was a good idea and i think certain aspects of it were well done but everything from the quiet walking scenes to the horrific actors just killed it for me. i think the best part was when they followed the three girls during lunch. that was good, because it showed highschool in a really raw form, just what kids do in normal life without some bigger plot that they know about. i think thats what he tried to go for with the whole movie but thats the only part that i felt really reached its goal. everything else just bit the dust.
i think some of the stuff was a bit too random. for example the shower kissing scene, and the piano playing scene, and those sky shots. i didn't get those, but maybe im just stupid.
i don't get the sky shots...BUT *the kissing scene probobly is caue the both had never kissed anyone [judging by the dialouge] *the piano is kind of in contrast to the violent game the eric plays really gung-ho and it mixes the motives up so we don't know why they did it
for the kissing scene it just feels like they put it in the movie for shock value though. alot of the scenes in that movie feel forced, to try to make the movie seem more artsy. just my opinion though.
Yeah the 2 Columbine shooters wern't gay or anything so I don't see why they had to put the kissing scene in the movie. I think it was just for shock value but I might be wrong. My favorite scene though is when they're getting in the car and driving to school. I just feel like it's such a powerful scene since no one's talking yet you still feel like it's all so dramatic.
