Ei for those who don't know is Employment Insurance.... here in canada anyway. Pretty much, they suck money off your paychecks, and if you lose your job, you have so many months of payments to help cover shit... They have time requirements, as in you have to have worked for so long before you can be eligable. Nicole has worked steady for the last 5 years. The last 6 months (until dec 15th) she was working only 3 miles from home. When she lost her job dec 15th, she applied for EI... Today, she gets a call, and because we live in the bush, and there is no other business besides the one where she was working, close enough to get to to work, they say she isn't eligible... 5 fucking years of them stealing money is what it comes down to...
Try being self employed...I still have to pay into that and can never collect a dime. ..although I hear some radio commercials lately about a few changes for self employed.
You pay ei as self employed and cant collect on it? I agree, that even more fucked then our situation... lol
any of us will be lucky to ever collect on cpp, although I have a buddy who said that anyone can get their cpp regardless of age, if you become unemployed... the first time you apply, they turn you down. Apply again and they accept you... I have no clue if this is right or just something that was specifc to his case, but he seemed sure it applied to everyone.
I have been through 3 government agencies in the last 2 years and it was never this tough! I tried to get the college funding 'Action Plan Canada' was sponsoring long-tenured workers last year, I was denied because one worker at CARE didn't tell Amber Education I had changed fields from office work to horticulture. So I got a job at a plant nursery, got hurt, applied for worker's compensation with worksafe bc, they denied me on the grounds of pre-existing conditions I didn't know I had. So now I am applying for medical EI. They have been 'working on my claim for 6 weeks! If Harper gets in again, this will contine. Please don't vote for him. Sorry to get political but it was never this hard to get benefits before. I have been off work since December 2010 and if I didn't have a common-law spouse, I would probably be out on the street. Actually, I jst called EI and a really nice lady sent a message to the claims office to remind them to address this. Hopefully that will work. Wish me luck.
Definetly wrong, unless he was on CPP Disability benefits. He may have been refused the first time and then appealed the decision and won, but you can't get CPP retirement benefits until youre 60.
Tom, she should file an appeal. If she has transportation that enables her to seek employment she can appeal. It is helpful if she has copies of positions she has applied for since termination that are ones that she would have to travel to get to. An appeal costs nothing, appeal it.
Appeal for sure - lots of government agencies are trying to cut costs and deny people right off the bat. It mostly sucks though because appeals take time and getting hungry doesn't. I hope you have a second income or lots of savings.
Harper's going to win again unless more people get out there and vote this time. If the same people are voting for the same parties, we'll just get the same result. C'mon, all you people who sat at home the last 2 times!
