not dread related. this forum proves that dreadheads come from all different walks of life, all types of communities and cultures, etc. etc. what im wondering about is your political/social stance... i find that a lot of 'dreads' lean to the left side of the political spectrum. but that is only in my experience. what i want to know is where are you on the scale and WHY? did you come to this conclusion yourself or were you raised that way? how do you view the distribution of capital? factors of production? im anarcho-primitivist. in my perfect world, the world would have limited technology (especially destructive technology) and communities would be local and self-sustaining. food would be produced/grown close to the community. i also believe in a ruling class of elites. there's more to it but maybe i'll elaborate later. but since that is impossible and only a fantasy... i am on the far right of the spectrum. mostly libertarian views. i believe that the government should intervene less in our day-to-day affairs and less restriction except for environmental protection and worker's rights. i believe strongly in the union. i was raised dem, but eventually crossed over to the republican side, then got disgusted with both parties and i usually end up not voting... what about you guys?iggy:iggy:iggy:
I lean to the left on most issues like the environment, health care, education, women's rights, and foreign policy. The only issue that I agree with the right on is abortion rights I like the idea of limited technology, I think it would be nice to live in a world without tv, cars, internet, etc. Families stayed close by and food was local- I can dig that. I think everyone should live in the country! I'm from a union family so yeah, big on the unions. Was definitely raised democrat, my parents are anarchist pro-pot legalization activists. government should be less focused on military/industrial development and more focused on caring for our young, old and sick.
I am a cynic which basically means I know the world now is fucked up, and the best way to fix it is to get rid of the plague that causes the sickness humans, I believe human society cannot be fixed as it is in itself the problem. basically I just said fuck it I'm not gonna be able to change anything so I might as well start looking for a way to take advantage of this screwed up world. in the social pyramid I'm just above fucked up, just below were Mexicos nonexistant middle class aught to be fuck it
this is how i feel. in today's world, it's much easier and personally beneficial to find the breaks and cracks in the system (and other people) and take advantage of them rather than to try and fix the world. it's much easier to hire somebody to work for you for minimum wage than to pay for their college so they can be YOUR boss lol...thats a bad analogy but that's what you're going to get since im about to go do bongs.iggy:iggy:iggy:
I formed my own political views. My parents I don't think had any but they voted for a socialist party. I don't support any party with all the corruption here at the moment but I'd say if anything I stood centre right although this does change depending on current events. I'm hoping for a career in politics so I need to find where I lie fast.
Im leaning towards the left on most issues , having the bush's in office kinda ruined the republican party for me...but i dont really consider myself a democrat even though i have voted only for them thus far, but i dont like abortion ( I like baby's too much I think the environment should always be a main concern... i pretty much share the beliefs that earth girl mentioned... life would be fun if we were all a lil more minimalist. less tv and mcdonalds and more camping and family/friends. sing songs plant seeds!!
I always wonder where the left ends and the right beings... I think it's a full circle and if you speak to extreme right wings you will find beliefs that are closely associated with those on the far left. I pick and choose issues that I agree with from all parties and places on the spectrum. One thing is certain... I do believe in government. No political party speaks for me... although I do vote for the Green Party because I feel that my morals are most closely in line with what they promote. My parents are just left of center, but pretty close to center and I share only a bit of my political views with them. My mom things everyone is out to screw her and has voted the same political party for as long as I know. I love politics and listening and learning about what is happening in my country. I love having my finger on the pulse and listening to different views to decide how I feel. I'm a political addict I guess. np - do speak more about the minimum wage comment. I started off by being paid minimum wage and worked my way up. I'm happy someone hired my ass. I used that money to pay for my education.
I guess I am a liberal. Here are things that I think are 1)feasible 2) would promote a better society in America (and around the world.) -efficient public transportation and vehicles that are energy efficient and environmentally sound from manufacture to the day they stop running -economical, energy efficient housing in urban areas that utilizes a great deal of space, allows for people to walk or bike to work/school and nearby community gardens and co-ops where people produce and distribute produce and goods. -more medium-sized education facilities with more even distribution of city tax money to pay for textbooks, computers, and teachers. -a board of education that is run by teachers instead of the corporate elite -maybe a required tithe tax on people who make $200,000+ per year - 8% or so of your income must be given to a charity or charitable foundation. that's all I can think of right now and it is extremely idealistic, but I figured it's more interesting that hearing the run of the mill "I'm pro choice and against death penalty" spiel.
Was raised Republican and my parents still are but now I guess I am democrat? But not really. I don't agree with either parties all the time and especially not the Republican. I would like to live in a socialist type society, where there is an equal distribution of everything and people help each other out whenever and where ever. I am not too savvy with my political vocabulary or even history so I am not sure exactly what my "utopian" world would be called. I don't agree with the right because to me it seems they just care about the upper class and try to exploit middle/lower classes to gain power and money. I don't agree with telling anyone else that they can't get an abortion just because I don't agree with it, it is their body their life, and I don't agree that gays shouldn't marry. It isn't any of my business to say that homosexuals can't get married, they want to let them. My parents mainly agree with the Republican because of the whole tax issue and they seem to think Democrats are unpatriotic but I agree there should be taxes but only when used like they are supposed to be, to help communities and the people as a whole.
i dont understand politics.. at all. i also have no interest in it, which is why i dont try to learn about it and therefore understand it yet i get angry that the world is the way it is, and that nothing changes
what i mean is that some people are born leaders and some are followers. somebody has to be the lion and somebody has to be the gazelle. it's the losers that settle for minimum wage all of their life and there's no point in trying to lift them up from their position because it is their own responsibility. i started at minimum wage, and even though i haven't had many years of experience, i chose a job where i could get training in my field and raise myself above minimum wage. some people are begging to be taken advantage of. if im starting a business...lawn care or shit i dont know some other business...why would i pay someone 20 dollars an hour for unskilled labor (no matter how hard it is) when they are happy making minimum wage and ask for nothing more? i have respect for those who wish to better themselves, but a lot of people don't have the determination and will to do that. for the rest, i'll gladly step on your face to raise my own lot in life. maybe that sounds cruel, but it is the natural order. iggy:iggy:iggy:
well, I agree but also... I live in mexico, our minimum wage here is less a day than US is an hour.... so not really an option living on minimum wage, its not possible... even then its hard but that does not mean you should be conformed with the least, drive is all
Im an anti capitalist at heart although i know it couldnt work, but hey i guy can still have dreams. I dislike government in general, the whole idea of having a prime minister or president is just a stupid fucking idea, old fasioned and just a scam to hide the actual people in power, then again i am one of those who believe 911 was an inside job and gandhi was actually more negative then made out to be. I believe technology could be used to better the world instead of destroy it and i strongly hate that prick Al Gore for convincing people humans are the cause for all the earth problems, ever hear of natural earth cycles. Politicians to me are just pawns in a game bigger then life, a game where churches hold sway, where business and corporation is more important then the general public, A game where the poor get poorer and the rich get richer, a game where innocent people are locked in jail year after year for smoking a herb and worst of all a game where in the end, we have become the fucking sheep. Government, politics and power hungry capitilism is the real terrorism. Governments confuse the public, create distrust in once trusting neighorhoods and poisins our minds and bodys with Vaccines, Wall Street and The fuckin Hummer as well as evil war plots and twisted truths. Where do i stand, FUCK THE GOVERNMENT, thats where i stand.
I am with you too np. That makes perfect sense to me. I'm hard working. HARD working and I'm happy that the hard work that my husband and I do provides well (ish) for my children. I like that in Canada we have a tax system that i feel works relatively well in the respect that we can afford everyone "equal" health care. I am also ok paying a higher tax rate because I make more money. As for "FUCK THE GOVERNMENT". Fair enough. The only thing that bothers me with this statement is that it is simply inaction. Do something about it if you hate it.
