Drug Years (History of America on Drugs)

Has anybody seen this 4 part show on Vh1? They chronicle the history of American on drugs starting with the beats and the jazz musicians, through the 60s (weed and lsd), all the way through the 70s and 80s (coke and heroin), up to today with prescription pills. I thought they did an excellent job.

Yeah I saw it. I made a thread about it a few weeks ago. I appreciate the fact that they don't try to put a negative or a positive spin on it. They just tell the stories.

 

yeah they arent doing the whole drugs are horrible dont do them, they are just telling the history. i liked it

 

I watched all four parts last night and I thought it was very well done. Like others have said, it didn't just focus on all the negatives of drugs.

 

There was something on the history channel a while ago. They were saying something about in Arizona(a long time ago) you could get a stamp for weed. It was illegal to have weed without the stamp. But to get the stamp you would need to have the weed with you. Wow, talk about fucking idiots!

Yeah, that was funny when Jerry was talkin about at the acid tests they'd only be able to play for like 1 minute because they would be too high

My favorite part was the "golden age of marijuana" when they talk to the teenage kids in high school about where in the school they get high

Did anybody see the pipe built into the frisbee,?? I though that was great

I loved it. The acid stuff is what really amazed me. I was high at the time too, and my mom was watching and for some reason she started giving me advice about what do do when I'm on acid. It was so funny at the time

 

I just got done watching part 4(dl'ed it),it was great so interesting .It was amazzing how hendrix played so stoned.

 

Yeah, 2 hits of Owsley's, I think they said. I remember that part.

 

can someone confirm or disconfirm this myth

i've heard jimi lined his headband with acid, and when he'd sweat, it would get absorbed into him

 

ive heard that rumor too, im pretty sure my mom saw him in concert but im not sure i want to ask if she knows haha. oh and i saw part 3 of that show i think like a long time ago but i was really high at the time (mildly ironic) so i dont remember much of it. from what i remember it was sweet though

 

Dude i was watching it with my dad... and when they were talking about Cocaine in the early eighties, out of nowhere he tells me and my sister, about this time when he went to a dealers house with some buddies and snorted a few lines... thanks to VH1 i found out that my father did coke. hooray!

 

i fuckin loved these shows!!! i thought it was really really refreshing to see some honesty about drugs on tv..im not saying that it was all like the bibile of drugs but it was cool theat they were honest
