I'm enrolling tomorrow night - argh! Social situations scare me, though I've been told that most of the students ae 60+! Such a shame that younger people aren't into getting traditional skills these days. Anyway, it's a 10 wk course, 1 night a week. I think it's gonna be pretty basic but you get to work on your own project yay! Well I just wanted to mention it and wish me luck please! I need it!
That is soooo cool! I wish we had something like that in my city! Good luck and I hope you have loads of fun! This is a great skill PS: I agree, I wish more younger people would be interested in this type of thing- it's fun and soo practical!
oh, I would love to take a dressmaking course! I have some old books about tailoring, it is so helpful with my sewing. As for young people sewing, I think sewing, knitting and such are gaining popularity. My younger sister asked for a sewing machine for her last birthday, which I took as a good sign. Good luck, I'm sure you will have a good time and just think of how much you will learn!
Well that was a waste of time! I can't tell you how angry I am! First of all, sorry I haven't replied to you all earlier, I wanted to give the course a chance before posting anything. This so called 'course' is basically an excuse for a get-together for these women who all live in the same little village, they all know eachother and do NO sewing whatsoever!!! The teacher does everything which only seems to consist of adjusting their clothing, no-one does any actual sewing, I wanted to make a shirt for my hubby and she took my material, cut the pattern and that was it! Didn't attempt to let me do anything, didn't tell me what she was doing... arggh! Now all I have is some shirt shaped pieces of material that makes me feel like it isn't my own work. I have started to sew it together but it feels like I've gone and bought some 'ready-to-sew' thing from a shop! I got out early last night 'cos I couldn't stick all the chatter and no lesson. What makes me angry is that this course is funded by our local government and I paid money that we can't really afford towards it. It's supposed to be a class, not a social gathering! I would complain about it but that seems petty... Anyway, rant over. Thanks for your replies guys, I'll stick my books and teach myself from now on!
i'd ask for a refund. seriously. if you *paid* for a course and don't feel like you got your money's worth, i'd try to get your money back. the worst that will happen is they will say no. maybe there is someone who lives near you who'd hook you up with some private sewing lessons? that sucks though
Hey sister, let me put a postive spin on this. Ingnor the old bats who chat! now suzie cuts alot there showed you how to cut a pattern, now you have the pattern for the rest of your life. just put it on to a brown paper bag {retrace the pattern onto the bag once cut apart} and if your Man like the shirt you will be able to make him a new one any time you find a fabric your man will like. and if all they do is chat, monopolize that teacher ask her 3393 questions a night, and while asking her all of the questions get her to pin your shit together, that way you can sew 2x's as much stuff in this ten week coarse!!! I hope you find some peace with this situation
