Not sure if I actually have it, but its going around my house, so I think I better take messures against it, in case I do, I'm very paranoid about it So tell me if you think this will work. Soak dreads in vinager for a hour, rense out very well, then wash with Nix soap or some lice shampoo. Blow dry well afterward, because lice suposedly hate heat Repeat the same thing the next day. Do this every 4 to 5 days for 2 or 3 weeks. Take all clothing wash it with a little of the lice shampoo in the wash, dry all clothing, bead spreads, sheets, ect, very well. dry them for a extra long amount of time, because of the heat once again. When all are dryed, put in a bag and tie well. Get the lice spray and spray it on close to anything and everything around the house to insure that they don't hide in the carpets or on the couch or something. If I go through well, it should get rid of the little buggers, I think. Anyone got any suggestion? I'm not cutting my dreads, had them for too long to do that, so any tips on anything? Thanks
you could try soaking your head in a saturated salt solution for an hour and dehydrate the bastards to death. Not something I've tryed just an idea that poped into my head.
My god.. three weeks after I chopped my last set off I noticed I was full of lice X3 Ithought the locks were itching me to death ... how the hell do you get the eggs out of dreads? since you cant comb...
Well, from what I know about lice, to usually get rid of the eggs (nits) you have to comb them out, but for people dreaded, we can't do that So, you have to kill the lice AND the eggs. The vinager is suposed to smother the crap out of the little basterds, also, dreads stay wet for much longer then normal hair, wich should also help smother these little pests. The main thing is knowing the enemy, I think. The eggs take 6 to 9 days to hatch usually. They are usually atached very close to the shaft. They are glued there by a type of cement excreated from the female louse. The Vinegar is suposed to make the cement they put on the eggs loosen very much, making it much easer for them to come out. Washing them after the vinager soaking the wash would make a lot of them fall out. We can't come them out, so we have to have them fall out, or kill them. Heat kills them, so does sufficating them. Also, if you do the treatmeant often, you will get them before they can lay eggs, but once they hatch. It takes them 3 to 10 days to actually lay eggs, if you add the times up of how long it takes a louse to lay eggs, and then hatch, you have at minimum 10 days, at most around 15 some where. The salt idea probably isn't too good, because you will end up burning the shit out of your scalp, salt burns, we all know that. Louse are mainly around the scalp, that would burn the crap out of your scalp, but, adding some salt to a mixture of venager would not be a bad idea if the mixture was good.
I seem to remember hearing somewhere that shaving foam somehow nukes lice eggs, something to do with the way it "softens" the hair. the only thing is that shaving soap, shaving cream and shaving gel are 3 different things.
nix and rid and all those chemical based things are nasty as hell on your scalp i had a hospitol force me into treatments like u describe several over a period of a week the last time leavin it on 4 tiomes as long as called for i never hasd lice to begin with only dandruff well the result was scalp was burned to hell comming off in chunks and bleeding to this day my scalps in bad shape from those treatments ive also heard that if u use those treatments moire then 2-3 times it increases your chjances of brain cancewr for dreads the suggested treatmesnts are either sulpher powwder or rubbing alcahol coover with a bag lweave in an hour to several hours wash out rince throiugh with straight undiluted vinagar (again leave in awhilke) rince ouit wash thouroughly do that on the sane schedule u suggested with all the oither stuff u thought of then dose yourself up with tea tree oil (straight) tea tree will keep you from being reinfested suposedly pennyroyal too but be careful if anyone around ya is pregnant pennytroyal can cause an abortion
I heard about using the rubbing alchohol but wouldn't that burn the living crap out of your scalp? Some where I read that you do half rubbing alchohol and half venager, leave it on anywhere from 3o min to a hour, or more, wash out well, do this a few days to get rid of them bastards well and good, but I thought it would burn your scalp bad. I use a Sulfer shampoo (Sulfer 8), would that make me less likely to get it in the first place? Can the Sulfer powder be found easily, and how do you apply it? This is a interesting topic, maybe it should be stickyed? I think I will try both methods, I don't know if I want to use the nix and such, my scalp is VERY dry because of the Clairafying shampoo I use to use, it gave me a scalp problem, I think it did anyway, or maybe I just have a natrually dry scalp, not sure, but if Nix or something makes it worse then maybe I should use it. Whats a good shampoo that would fight against it, you know, just something to add to your shampoo to take like a preimtive strike? Would adding Sulfer powder help to shampoo help?
I'd say try with your vinegar idea first it sounds the least harsh. Sulfer hurts like hell to breath in so I would avoid it if possible.
I use teatree oil in the mixture I picked up here, with baking soda and acv also seasalt and lemonjuice and have had absolutly no problems with lice or any other buggies. Teatree keeps the buggies away.
This is a good thread for anyone to bookmark for future reference. I'm scared to death of lice. I've never had lice in my lifetime, and since I live alone hopefully I don't have to worry about catching it that way, but public places always make me think twice (I'm about to go to the movie theater... do you know how many people rest their heads on the top of these seats!? I am always careful not to rest my head there, though I imagine if lice is on the seat, it will get me regardless during the 2 hour 20 min movie. Its also good to know that TeaTree helps prevent bugs. I have some teatree, but just washed w/ peperment. Maybe I'll do a light rewash w/ teatree tonight just to help keep the bugs out.
I wouldn't do a lice treatment unless I knew for sure I had them... too many lice treatments can result in treatment-resistant bugs. Instead, I would take preventive measures like keeping bed sheets very clean, wrapping the dreads up in a scarf, adding tea tree to shampoo, even rub a little tea tree oil around the scalp area, don't share hats, etc...
I think I want to try to rubbing alchohol too, I've heard some good things about it with killing louse, but wouldn't it burn the scalp?
I talked to the girl at the store down the road who says she once had dreads. I told her about how this thread raised some concerns and lice; she said "make sure your friends are clean, if your friends and family (people you are always around) don't have it, then chances are you won't get it". She also said stay away from kids and playgrounds. I asked her what to do if a lice infestation occured. She told me to douse my hair in straight TeaTree regularly until they could not stand any longer. Maybe I'm just making a big deal of nothing, but I am terrified of parasites. I've never had lice before, and I don't think having dreads would attract them; it is just harder to get rid of them.
lice sucks man... one of my friends little sister got it about a week ago, and they have completely soaked down everything! idk if it actually works or not, but ive heard of ppl covering their heads in mayo. supposibly it smothers the lice or something, idk. but your idea sounds good, just make sure you continue to do it for more than just a few days.... but goodluck man. <3
dude, i did a little research and now i know. louse has nothing to do with anything, poor hygiene, unable to wash one's hair, extreme heat, the only factor known especially in the science is that, "one should be physically exposed to an infected person to get it". so having it cannot really be controlled actually.. and here is the exact same note which got me really enlightened. "lice is not attracted with anything, just the blood from the scalp." anyway, i think tea tree has some elements which repels louse. haha. but all in all, thats just about the truth. anyway, i think the best way to get rid of it is by using either an alcohol or vinegar with cayenne pepper, massage it to your scalp and leave it there for 3 hours or more, cover it with plastic bag to leave the fumes inside your head. voila! death to lice! make sure your repeat it again after 7-10 days(in between those days, and stricly between those dates only!)..
alcohol along wont kill the lice, it would only ridicule them for a bit.. and vinegar just melts the cements they left to your hair for them to hang well. vinegar would loosen things up for ya. the key ingredient is cayenne pepper as they die from its sting(extreme heat). they hate it and eventually die of it. haha. good luck. i havent really tried mayo though, just be careful with thatas it would moisturize your hair heavily(because of its egg components). just make sure you wash it with a good baking soda solution to remove its residue. haha. wow. for a minute there, i sounded like a pro. xD ..im still in my 5th week though, no solid formations yet. haha. taking my time.
Thanks for all the replys. I have thought of a great routine that would get rid of the louse, it is time consuming and not the cheapest thing, but it will surely get rid of the louse. I know that I have it, it ran through my house, but I do know that I don't have it bad at all. My broth search my dreads good, only found 2 bugs, and I am starting my treatments to get rid of these bastards tomorrow Here is what I will be doing. I will start this the first of Aug, it will last about 16 days or something. - I will be using Venegar, Rubbing Alchohol and Cian Pepper. I'm not sure of the proportions I should us, any idea? This wil be its own mixture. I would soak this for 2-3 hours with a shower cap on. - I would then wash my dreads in the louse shampoo, what ever we have, I think Rid or Nix. I would allow it to soak for the amount of time recommended. - I would then wash my dreads with a Sulfur shampoo (Sulfur 8) and allow it to soak for a hour. This all together is around 3 to 4 hours of soaking. -I would then blow dry it well, on high, creating lots of hear, this has been shown to dehidrate eggs and the louse. - The second of Aug would be for blow drying and letting them dry more 9my hair takes about a day or more to fully dry well. The blow dryer will help kill the gugs and nits even more, as well as blow some of them out, this is helpful because we can't exactmly comb out dreads, can we? The venegar and the mix that was first put in kills the bugs and eggs, a lot of them, but is suposed to loosen the eggs a LOT, wich allows for the blow dryer to help get rid of them. - After I let them dry on the Second of Aug, I will repeat the same washing as before on the 3rd of Aug, this will help get anything else that was left behind. Blow drying this day, and the next, will kill even more and blow more out. - the 4th of Aug is meant for drying hair well and getting all clothing, beddings, pellows, couch cussions, ect washed, dryed, then placed in a trash bag and put away until everything else is done. - The 5th of Aug I will start using a spray of Sea Salt (to dehidrate), Rosemary (to Repel), Jasmine (to repel), Tee Tree (to repel). This should be a good thing to help repel to louse as much as possible. - The 6th I will continue using the spray as above and blow drying my dreads. I will also spray EVERYTHING in this house. This stuff is supose to kill the louse and nits, we have had good luck with it, I will also spray some of the spray I put in my dreads around the house too, just in case. - The 7th I will wash my dreads again, as I did before, for the same times and such. I would basically do the same thing as before, one more time through, so a total of 14-15 days. Doing this should surely get rid of everything. The only thing is, you have to get the whole of the house, pellows, everything. You would also have to have everyone in the house do it to, as a precaution, if one person gets it most will, I will careful and I got it, sadly But doing this I think it will get gone quick, and for good Anyone want to add to this? Or maybe make a explanation of why some of these things work. This should be something that is stickied or something. Any suggestions to this? Or anything you think that should be removed? Thanks everyone!
Also, I forgot to add in the fact that al water washing your dreads should be as hot as you can possibly stand it, suposedly louse really do not like the heat. Also, I read something about shaving cream. Not to sure how I feel about shaving cream on my head, I think I will try this method out first, it should work well though, I think. Someone suggested that when you put a venegar solution in, just use a normal bag, but sleep with it in your hair, because louse are suposed to not be able to breeth longer then 4 to 8 hours (longer some of the time, this is the average). I may reform the schedule before I do it, adding some other things that may work better. Also, Ciyanne pepper seems to be one of the bigger parts of it, there suposed to be once of the things that actually kill the louse and eggs. So I think I will add a lot of this to the Venegar mix, I just need to figure out what a good amount to add is. Any ideas?
if the solution turned into a "blood red", then you are on the right track. xD pretty long entry you got there. haha. must've been really pissed off about bugs. xD by the way, i think alcohol is a much better solvent for your cayenne man, ye. :cheers2::cheers2::cheers2:
