Speaking from my own personal experience, I have found it far more beneficial to write my own philosophy than to read other people's ideas. I will admit that I had to read someone else's ideas to initiate my philisophical/spiritual journey but since then I find that reading others people's ideas is unsatisfying. You have a mind, as do the writers of the literature that you read. Do not think that you cannot enlighten yourself from within, and have equally life changing effects upon yourself. Perhaps a combination of reading others ideas and writing your own is wise. Skatiz Aow, Butch.
very true... but it's also nice to have a guideline so we all have something to agree on or be on the same page...
I agree and it also helps you to really discover exactly what you believe to the deepest extent, it has at least been helpful to me and I think everyone should try it.
Absolutely, Whenever you read a philosophy you get some idea of how the idea is imprinted in the english language, yet when you are able to think it up yourself you have the original breathe of understanding beyond miscomprehension and closer to the divine. Though sometimes I do enjoy reading other philosophies to attain greater enlightenment, yet the only writtings I find fulfilment in comprehending are the ones that I can eventually find many extensions of to the point of relation to the divine observable truth, which is a condition given condition for any naturally ocurring philosophy.
I think it is a very bad idea to write without reading everything you can possibly find on the subject. If you don’t than you will undoubtedly write something that someone else has already written about. Worse is that if you write and then read what someone else wrote you are going to realize how much you suck. Of course, as soon as you realize how much you suck you are going to be turned off from philosophy because nothing you can will not have been said a million times over and a million times better thus dwarfing the significance of your mind. That is unless you are comfortable living in the shell of your fantasy world where what you think is ultimately it. ALWAYS underestimate your own mind cause odds are it sucks.
Good one bro, what a way to end the positive feedback this thread contained. Anyway, you are entitled to your negative opinions. Good for you, keep taking the easy road and read others thoughts on the world.
Alright Butchy boy, in the spirit of the quest for truth on this issue, perhaps you would care to share with us one of your own masterpieces so that we might decide for ourselves if it is better to write then read, or read than write. Whaddya say?
Hahaha, i like it!!!! The problem is that to "you" my philosophy is not "your" own personal philosophy (obviously). The way to solve whether or not personal philosophy is more meaningful than other peoples philosophy is for you to try writing your own. Only then can the quest for truth be complete. PS, philosophy is meaningful no matter who thinks it up. I have found great enlightenment from my own philosophy and from the philosophy of others. Really its a win/win situation. Don't under-estimate your own skills, you might surprise yourself. Peace and enlightenment to you OSF.
ya dude I think your just a little to bitter and spitefull to comprehend the original nature of much philosophy you chould try to clear your mind of expectations and skeptisizms, thats why your mind "sucks" as you put it, and it's hard to comprehend a mind that doesn't "suck" from the perspective of one that does. I really mine nothing against u in this, that is why I say "sucks" for a mind never sucks it just has not come close to reaching a level of clarity aside from constant forces of the ego. __________________________________________________________________ No problem can be solved from the same consciousness that created it . -Einstein
This is a very intersting topic. I agree and disagree. I really enjoy hearing other people's philosophies, as well and reading from "famous" philosopher's books. I tend to like my own philosophies more (which I'm sure most do). Then I think about it, for every philosophy I think of, countless people disagree with it in ways...just as I disagree with others in certain ways. Does it all really matter? It is highly possible you are just as far off as anyone. It is great exercise for the mind, though. Agreed. Some people are dolts, but even they may suprise themselves.
