big nacionalists?! Don't they? Now I don't mean Americans from Hipforums, I mean those typical Ammies with USA signs singing their anthem and crying because of 11th Sep. and.. I don't wanna be hateful.. but.. aw, I so don't like America.. does it make me being a worse person?!
Yeah of course were nationalists You don't think the might of our nation-state is derived from world-weary cynicism do you? At least you don't have to hear the constant drumbeat of hollow self-adoration like we do.
Of course, I don't have too.. No.. But then I couldn't watch TV, coz every TV News are from 60% about something around USA, I couldn't read newspapers, coz it's the same here.. No.. I could close myself to cavern and live in peace..
have you traveled much to another country? Americans arent the only ones who display their flag a lot. I saw flags ALL over europe. Here in New Zealand the "Silver Fern"(The real flag of NZ, whether it is official or not) is displayed probably 10x more than the US flag. Why hate Americans and America because we're proud of who we are? I'm not sure where you get your idea of the 'typical Ammie" but it is horribly stereotypical and hateful. That would be like me saying "Dont you just hate those typical europeans: Stinky, weak, and always begging for help?" I never understand why it is ok for everyone else to be proud of their country, but when Americans are proud of their country it is somehow a horrible thing. If you hate people for so stupid a reason as them being proud of their country, yes, it does make you a bad person. That is not to say you cant disagree or dislike American policies..but to hate a people..yeah..thats bad.
I can't say I hate Americans or anybody, but I'm a bit annoyed by the way some Americans think democracy, freedom and all the values related to them are exclusively American trademarks. that's so untrue. I don't think any country has a copyright on those, and no government and political power - even the American ones - can be fully identified with the idea of freedom. being proud w/ yr country is OK, but many Americans I know - I do know Americans in person as well as through the net - think it's their duty to support their government no matter what it does cause it should be for the better. yeah right... and the country several of my acquaintances have lived seems to be so different from that country from the times of the Declaration of Independence and The Fathers of the Nation.
Very, Very well said. I disagree with american politics, and i question america just as much as the next. But see, thats what makes it so great. is that we could have and voice these opinions. No i dont support these wars, but i do support the troops. And i think most people would say the same thing. As much as i question, i still LOVE this state. It is the most successful form of government, despite being a bit off-par at times. Sure we make our mistakes, but as does every nation. Bottom line is, im proud of my countryy, im proud of our history (some of it), and im proud to be an american. And the remarks about september 11th were disturbing. Horrific tragedies are just that no matter where they are. It just so happened to America this time, thus causing a massive show of nationalism. However, I, like others, have always been patriots. We always will be as long as g-d continues to bless America
the question still stands..why do you not like someone because they are proud of who they are? are you proud of being czech? and please becareful with 9/11, it resonates loudly with some of us. It would be rude for me to make fun of your national tragedies.
They are american ideals. Many americans feel as if we've been pivotal and very influential in spreading those ideals to other people. I believe this goes back to the founders themselves, who believed that they were acting on behalf of all mankind when they wrote the declaration/constitution. I believe all but 3 countries in the world now have constitutions, the majority are democratic. Maybe they were right? Ultimately, many americans believe this has always been our destiny: to spread freedom, liberty, and justice to other people. Ultimately, i think many people believe America has become synonymous with freedom as tens of millions sought refuge within our country and hundreds of millions of more sought our help in fighting for their freedom. I think this causes a lot of resentment against americans though. i.e. If America is the country identified with freedom, liberty and justice, where does that leave every other country? I agree, you shouldnt automatically support the government. However, i think much of this is probably misunderstood since we are at war. Supporting our troops is very different than supporting the government. Every country is different from 230 years ago. The times are different. I still believe that our core values are still the same. But we have had to adapt to the times. We cant be the same people we were 230 years ago, we wouldn't have lasted this long.
Stars & Stripes is the ultimate symbol of freedom and somehow I love it, but how do the declaration of independence sound in 'new-speak'? love and understanding, ) / ) (""") ) * ("" @@ ’_) ("") ("”") (’’) \/_( *)_( (_ */"" @@ (_) (_(* )_( .. )<,
Nationalists were some people living in the past century. They died out long time ago. That's not 100% true - they still exist, but the few are having the strong feeling of claustrophobia, and there's no possible way out for them. There are no nations anylonger - there is a global empire... And the U.S. benefits from it. love and understanding, =wolf=
:$ Lame...not everyone's mother tongue is English It makes me think your political philosophy is really just crypto-nationalism.
one thing that I truely bitterly hate about the americans is that like when "we" say americans [something], "they" almost always say europeans [something]... Europe isn't a fucking country!!!! There's little to no comparison in mentality between the diffent countries in europe! It's a fucking continent, GET IT!!! I know this may sound harsh, but thousinds of people die every day... What did your cowboy president do about it? He killed lots more innocent people, unless you know any of those involved, know someone that knows then (you know how it goes) or lived near where it happend, I only have one thing to say 'get over it'... And now someones probably gonna say something about Denmark and just in advance I'll say, our government are a bunch of wimpy ass kissers and the weather sucks... I love it for the people and the legacy Just to make it clear, I did not say that I hate americans... I don't hate groups, I hate people
No shit it is not. America is not nearly as homogenous as you make it out to be. New Yorkers are not the same as people from mississippi. Just as someone from france isnt german. Becareful stereotyping a nation of 300 million that is spread out over such a huge country. We ARENT the same. Although, the makings of the United States of Europe is well underway..maybe americans are just foretelling the future? Grow up. Yes, thousands of people die everyday, does that mean that we shouldn't care about anyone dying? Should we mourn no one? That is such silly logic. Dont worry. I dont care to insult your country or your people. good for you.
Oh my, I got you mad didn't I :X I'm sorry to break it to you, but there's a lot bigger mentality change from nation to an other nation, than within one nation... I know you're the not all the same, I didn't say you were you just read it that way... I don't say we shouldn't care, I'm just saying do'nt be so edgy about it... If you read what I wrote I said that if you had any connection to it, it's okay to be edgy... But I guess you only read what you have to Ahaha, I didn't say you would I said someone probably would... I didn't say insult either, more like ask questions about how feel for my country... And yeah, pretty damn good for me... So who needs to grow up mister, atleast I read... And btw, this is not me being mad... this is me being a pain in the ass
Mad? the point being: stereotyping is dumb, whether it is americans or europeans doing it. What happened on 9/11...in spain, in london and elsewhere affects more than just those who were killed or their immediate family. While i'd rather put them in the past too, i think saying 'get over it' or shit about 'americans crying over 9/11' is just rude.
lol Freedom = Slavery Independence = Fear Democracy = Suppression Concerning all this being proud of your country bullcrap: it might not be wrong, but it sure is stupid.. Why be proud of something that you have done nothing for, but having the luck (?) of being able to identify yourself with it.. Me personally, I take more pride in taking a dump of perfect color and structure than for the fact of being born in the Netherlands. And, of course, the big danger in nationalism is that the love of your country almost automatically makes one believe (some) other countries our somehow less, and thus leads to the sickening feeling of superiority of SOME Americans that Europeans hate so much. Slight melancholic forms of nationalism look cute to me, but basically I look upon it as a lack of relativism..
cute really? no one has done anything to make their country a better place? Wonder how countries achieve anything when no one does anything. Being a good citizen makes you a pivotal part of making the country work. Ontop of that...being part of the military, police, fire, or any volunteer group helps to make the country better. Sorry you dont feel any pride in your country. It is a shame. lol...yeah, cause europeans dont look down on America or Americans. Europe has hundreds of years of history of looking down at America. Sorry, but you have no room to talk. Not all countries are equal in what they've achieved. Sorry. there is that evil word, relativism
