He's laying diamonds on the floor; justification
Light from the windows makes them dance
And only he can see the wild rhythms
He got there late because he took a rickshaw
And we were on a jet place
And our centuries of acceptance and dependence
    Evaporated long before his did

Co-workers in the lobby watch him
Take the elevator to a whole new country, while
They drink together in the evening
Rising together but staying on the same plane
There were no wives at home,
    Only convienence stores at night
He talked about stocks during the bubble years
He was just a salary man

There were things to be said and done
Now he has dollar marks in his eyes
He couldn't do it alone, not alone
He was just a salary man
