I was born in 89, and I was really too young to experiance the 90's but fortunatly I had the coolest babysitter in the world and I got to experiance the grunge revolution. I really miss the days of Doc. Martens and flannel....how about some of you? Tell me about your 90's experiances and what you miss.

i certainly miss nirvana... meat puppets and a few other fabulous bands from that era. but i can imagine most of those bands would be awful now due to the lack of quality in music now-a-days.

I like that decade, but I don't really miss it. Most of the bands I like from the nineties are still around and otherwise the music is just as good coming from nowadays bands. Grunge never blew me away though, I only dig Nevermind of Nirvana's albums.

I gew up a grunge kid. I loved Pearl Jam and Mudhoney and the Screaming Trees and the Meat Puppets and Nirvana and Soundgarden and all that jazz. I still like Pearl Jam, I will admit it, but I started growing out of grunge around the time I started tossing my cassettes.

But post grunge was more important to me as I was getting a little older. Blind Melon and Sublime and then Rage came out and music was really good for 2 or 3 years.

I don't miss it all that much. But I miss Bradley a whole lot. And Layne and Shannon too. But the other day I was eating at a restaurant and they had the 90's station on the satellite radio. It was a bunch of bullshit like Ace of Base and the Spice Girls and Semisonic. It pissed me off because 90's music is going to be remembered for the shitty pop songs that came out and not the good music that actually affected us 90's kids. And then I realized that's probably why I hate 80's music. I haven't heard the good shit.

Ew! The nineties sucked. In my opinion, grunge was the death of rock 'n roll. They dumbed it down to a simpler more empty form of rock. No shredding guitar solos, no profound lyrics, all rock no roll. I hate it. Rock took a turn for the worse after the eighties. I'm not saying hair metal was the best form of rock but it was sure as hell better than grunge because the guitarists actually had some sort of talent and actually played guitar, not just backed the lead singer. I don't see any grunge songs on the top ten list of guitar solos. Either their guitarists have no talent or they're too lazy and inexperienced to shred. I don't see the drummer from Nirvana playing 30 minute drum solos with his hands. I hate hate hate hate hate grunge. But then again that's just my opinion.

Except for Sublime of course. They had amusing creative lyrics.

You hate 80s music? Listen to White Lion, Night Ranger and Def Leppard. They rock.

Grunge didn't kill rock 'n roll at all. Especially in the nineties there were a whole lot of bands that started playing seventies rock again, mixed with the heavy metal of the eighties and created a whole shitload of the greatest rock 'n roll albums I heard. That's one of the great things happened to music and rock 'n roll in the nineties.
Another thing is the drum 'n bass/triphop and psytrance thing, but yeah, those are new genres you like or you do not. However, that's not the thing with nineties rock 'n roll scene. It did evolved but it has wild and creative guitarsolo's, riffs and jams again.
So please don't say grunge killed rock 'n roll or the nineties sucked if you don't know what you're missing.

I like 90s metal, but apart from that, there's not much that flops my mop from that decade.

The 80s for me were worse though. Including metal, since black metal, death/doom metal etcetera hadn't been developed or fully matured yet until the 90s.

Yeah, the eighthies are obviously the worst decade to music ever. Of course there are a few exceptions, but the only good thing that was born in the eighties is heavy metal.

Eighties heavy metal is my life. I love it.
I do know what I'm missing. And it's nothing special. My brother and sister play it everday in the car. I hate it.
Grunge may be rock, but it's not rock 'n roll. There is a difference. Rock 'n roll is my thing.

I was really exposed to music young so for me the 90's is all I was there for but now that I know more about the 80's I love that era too. I live the Smiths, Def Leppord, The Cure, The Cult, R.E.M., White Snake, David Bowie, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Eurythmics, Heart, The Bangles...........and hundreds of others, but the 90's is like home for me. Grunge was what I was raised on but there was other rock that happened during that period that was equaly awesome. grunge was far from the death of rock, everyone has their own opinion so go for what you know but don't dis other generes because not everyone agrees with your preferances either.

Since grunge rock went downhill. Listen to today's rock. I think grunge contributed to how absolutely horrible it is. It started with grunge, which wasn't nearly as good as the rock of the seventies (Zeppelin, Floyd, The Who) and from grunge things spiraled downward until they hit rock bottom with the crap they call rock today.
Want some real rock? Listen to Journey. Or The Who.

It's not about guitar solos. I mean, I don't see any Jerry Garcia solos in the top ten either. Or Eric Clapton for that matter, and he's one of the best. I think it's stupid to base your opinion of a whole era of music based on who played better guitar solos. If that's your requirement for good music then you are missing out on a lot.

Besides, the guitar solo from "Alive" by Pearl Jam is fantastic.

Def Leppard blows. (do I have to put "in my opinion"? or is it obvious it's my opinion because I wrote it) I haven't listened to White Lion or Night Ranger, but for me, Metal began with Black Sabbath and ended with Iron Maiden.

EDIT: Journey!??!? You gotta be fuckin kidding me.

Steve Perry was an amazing vocalist.
Alive is one of the worst songs I've ever heard in my life!! It says the same thing over and over and over again. Now there's a song that blows.
Ummm, no. Def Leppard is awesome. At least their guitarists play guitar.

I listen to Journey and The Who but who says music has to end with them? I think you need to broaden your mind Woodstockchild. The 60's and 70's were great but talent has come out sine then. I'm partial to a little of everything and I'd never close my mind off to an entire genre. Maybe you just haven't heard the right thing or you're just close minded.............Peace!

I've broadened it to include the 80s.
I just don't like it. That doesn't mean I'm closed minded. I'm sure there's a kind of music you don't like.

There really isn't any music I don't like. I give each Genre it's props for what it gives best but not everything gets equal play on my stereo....I do agree. The 90's were a really good time for me......I guess it's not your thing but I doubt you've heard it all and I just hope you don't cut it off before you have.

I've heard Nirvana and I can't stand them. I just don't like the sound in general. I live for guitar solos, expecially Jimmy Page's. I could listen to a 20 minute guitar solo if such a fantasy existed. I guess I should just stick to my Zep.
