Do you wash your hands everytime you use the restroom?

This might seem like a strange question, but when I picked up dinner a couple nights ago, I used the restaurant's restroom and noticed a woman who did NOT wash her hands after doing her business. She was in the stall when I came in, and we got out of our respective stalls at the same time (and yes, she did flush the toilet), so I can only assume she relieved herself.

I know there are people out there who just don't for various reasons. I'm curious if they'd admit to it, or if it's something to be "ashamed" of....

So, how much does this act of personal hygiene mean to you?

A lot! I wash my hands whenever I use the bathroom, and especially if I'm doing anything remotely food-related. Of course, I also CANNOT bring myself to cook in a dirty kitchen. If there's one dish that needs washing , or especially a counter-top, you better believe I'm gonna tackle that before I touch any food!

Was she sniffing/have a runny nose when she exited the stall?

    Just curious...

    I have to.

    havetohavetohaveto

I got a bad sickness from someone not washing their hands before serving me food one time. Like, hospitalized bad (albeit only for four days). Plus I went through my school's commercial cooking classes, and have a foodsafe certificate.... washing your hands stops you from making other people sick.

plus, urine on hands, not so fun

one of my boyfriends coworkers was telling us the other day about her "ultimate horriffic dining experience". Said she went to some (supposedly) classy steak house, and ordered, and had to have her steak sent back twice because it was so badly undercooked (or overcooked, I don't remember... the important thing is that she sent it back, and in HER opinion she wasn't just being bitchy and picky) Finally, they come out with a specimen that she deemed edible, however it was drenched in sauce. She ate it, said nothing this time, paid and vowed to herself never to come back.

Shortly after leaving, she became violently ill and went to the hospital. They tested the food that she threw up, and actually found FOUR separate urine specimens in it.

Long story short, she got a whole lotta cashfor the ordeal, promptly wasted it, and now cooks all her meals at home....

    I have to too.

Sometimes i think i can get away with it...especially if im in the middle of an interesting online conversation...and i run back to the computer desk without trying to think about it. But it never works. Thoughts about breeding, festering bacteria and disease and smelliness creep in, until i finally give in 5 minutes later, go back to the bathroom and wash thoroughly. Maybe one day ill get away with it. Maybe.

The usual routine is a good wash with anti-bacterial soap stuff, though

    Xx

that is an impossiblity. such a test does not exist and urine is not different enough to be detected as "distinct" after being in hydrochloric acid inside the stomach.
an urban myth in the making.

what COULD be tested for is fecal contamination as in e coli (string of numbers and letters I never remember here...a 57 in in it)

They would have had to subject the urine to Genetic tests, which not only are way to expensive for something like this, but the results take an average of THREE weeks. Also, when any bodily fluid is mixed with fluids from others, it messes with the DNA and you can't usually determine whose it is, or how many. (This is often a problem with gang rapes.) ALSO, urine is STERILE, as disgusting as it may be, it will NOT make you sick. Your friend was either really angry and exaggerating, or she didn't understand what the doctor told her.

E Coli is a distinct possibility. It can make you very ill. It comes from excrement. But it has it OWN DNA, so there would be no way to determine how many people contributed to the sample. It would have had to have been added AFTER cooking, though. I would think you would be able to smell and most likely (gag) taste fresh shit on your food, sauce or not.

Also, these cases are ALWAYS reported to Public Health and the resturant is investigated and almost always closed down. It is against the law to add something to food to make people sick, so there would have been a CRIMINAL investigation. I've worked for hospitals and it is law that this has to be done when intentional contamination of food is even suspected.

So someone was angry and giving you the business (no pun intended.)

I wash my hands after, then do all I can do avoid touching the knobs (I love love love automatic sinks) to turn it off. I also use the bottom of my shirt or my sleeve to open the door. I'm massively freaked out by germs.

And yeah, the steak story sounds a little fishy...Though it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they did add their own special "sauce" to it. I've heard many a tale from people who worked at restaurants of their experience with annoying/rude customers. Mostly just deal with spitting in their food or whatever, but yeah. That's why it's best to treat your server with the utmost respect. And if you can't do that, it's best just to stay home and cook your own meals.

sure i wash it after using the restroom, it is a must!

They found that many people dont do that and that hotel rooms have urine and semen stains everywhere such as on doorknobs, walls, cushions,...etc

Automatic sinks are the best... but be wary of those automatic hand dryers... they are infested with germs, too! Just take a look under the tube!

Oh, I avoid hand dryers...they've always freaked me out for some odd reason. That reminds me of an amusing story of sorts I have. My friend was in a McDonald's restroom and he looked at the hand dryer and where it has the little instructional diagram (with the hand pushing the button, then the hands under a bunch of red squiggly lines), and he said someone had written on there, "Step one: Push the button. Step two: Clap for bacon." Hehehe.

In the food court where I work, when I go to the toilet I notice alot of the staff from other food places don't wash their hands EVER. Usually the asian food places.

However I think one can be too hygienic, which is possibly why so many people have allergies these days. People aren't being exposed to germs often enough.

I always use the paper towel to open the door!

I was in the Golden Corral restaurant in Springfield Mo. on south Glenstone Ave. and went to the restroom, a man done his business, and walked out the door not washing his hands, he was an employee! So I thought I should report it to the manager, come to find out it was the manager I had seen do this, I told him what I saw and I would report this to the company office and would never return to this establishment!

Gross thing happened yesterday. My boyfriend and I were walking to dinner with some friends, and he was smoking, and said "know what's funny? I didn't wash my hands for 3 days, and at the end, my knuckles by where I hold my cigarettes were YELLOW."

Naturally, I got grossed out and asked "what 3 days were these???!?!?"

And then everybody laughed at me. Seems it's okay for guys to not wash their hands for days, but their girlfriends get laughed at for not noticing.
    Eww!

I don't wash my hands unless I'm going to be eating...

By the time I walk out of the door, I'll have germs on my hands again anyway. *shrugs* Oh well.
