do glass pipes smoke better when clean or dirty?

just wondering if the amount of residue affected how good the toke was?

if the pipe is clean do you get a better high?

and by clean i mean soaked in alcohol

 

I like it when my bowls full of resin, not sure if it makes you higher but I can't stand it when it shits in my mouth so the resin stops it a little. a clean bowl does help you get a nice fresh taste though.

 

yeah, i agree, it serves as a screen. Also, i doesn't make a difference. A clean bowl is only aesthetically pleasing

 

i prefer it coated in resin because it acts as a filter of sorts

If you don't clean your pipe for a long time, it can get clogged with res. If you let it go for too long, it'll get so thick that you'll have to boil it to get it out. We boiled my friends pipe once because it was getting really hard to hit, and we got about six grams of resin out of it.

 

only part of my pipe i'll clean is the bowl part itself... that way im not smokin up any built up resin and you get the full flavor from the bud... you dont have to have a completely clean pipe to get the full flavor... just wipe the bowl part out.. and it'll be great... usually if i wanna smoke out of a completely clean bowl i buy a new one... i like the colors my pipes change when they get resinated... so i let'em build up.... i had a hammer that i owned for like 3-4years and i never cleaned it... not even the bowl... i could fit about a half of a bowl in it... and then one day it fell... and broke... the funny part was.. the chamber that drops down to give it the hammer look was so filled with resin.. when the bowl busted.. the glass broke in the bottom chamber but stuck together because the whole chamber was packed with resin

You may be exaggerating. No, you are exaggerating.

 

its all personal preference. a perfectly clean bowl will provide a much better tasting smoke, but i find it also is usually a good bit harsher at the same time. also, resin tends to help hold the bud/ashes in place, which is a real plus in preventing it from ashing in your mouth or when its a straight peice like a chillum or one-hitter it prevents it from falling out of the end. the resin also makes a pipe look better in many cases. overall i prefer slightly, but not heavily resinated peices, try to get a happy medium.

 

i agree... clean pipes do seem harsher... maybe its because the smoke is really hot... and resin kinda helps absorb the heat from the smoke

 

Having a resinated pipe gives the smoke a weird taste... I'd clean it out every once in a while, its nice to see what colors it actually was and be like "Woooww.... man.... I haven't seen it like this since I bought it... damn... look at it...." least thats I usually am after I smoke a bowl from a clean pipe =P

 

i think its that plus the smoother surface of clean glass would be much less prone to "filter" the smoke....the resin that builds up after a long time is very sticky and often has bits of half-smoked pot in it, it has more surface area and a greater ability to stick to the resin that's in the smoke...i'd imagine you get somewhat "cleaner" hits from a dirty pipe, actually, although i think heating the resin in the bowl itself tends to give the taste a change for the worse.

 

thats why you just clean out the bowl on the pipe and leave the rest resinated... you get the nice clean taste of the bud that way... while not being harsh and hot from being completely cleaned out

 

Does this all apply to bongs, too? Because I can't really tell the difference between a clean bong and a bong with resin.

 

i don't notice a hell of a lot of difference either with bongs, but cleanliness of the slider does make a difference. if the slide is clean, nugs taste decent in my bong, if its dirty, they dont taste bad, but its not great. mids always taste bad in a bong, imo, but thats probably due to a hotter burn and larger volume of smoke being inhaled.

but then, i have a rather large (14") bong with a large base and low amount of water....this may contribute to the bad taste. its a great peice though, and i love it....


its far dirtier now than when the pic was taken....maybe i should clean it...

 

I'm definately not exagerating. We rolled it into a ball and it was 6.2 grams.

i dont see why he'd have to be exaggerating. hell, resin is a lot denser than pot, and there are some big peices out there, too. though it wouldnt have to be a monster if it was just really, really dirty to the point of just about being clogged beyond any use...besides, my first peice was one of the smaller glass pipes i've ever seen, and when it broke (after several years of faithful service) little quan yin yielded about 2g of resin...i could see a normal to large bowl, really dirty, holding quite a good bit more than that, if you let it get that dirty....

 

Exactly. My friend's pipe is somewhat large, and it was so clogged that it took like twenty minutes to smoke a bowl. The hits were way too shallow. That's why we had to boil it. Nice bong, by the way, it's a lot like my own.
