Digitalldj's guide to Etiquette - learn somthing

lesson one deals with going out, restaurants, clubs, lounges, bars, pubs, parties.

1.a - ordering wine:

In my opinion, there is only one type of wine, and it's red. Red is a wine drinkers wine, and even, for beginners, it's easy to find what you like.

Wine is somthing good to always know what you like, just later on in your life in social aspects etc. to simply know the difference between a chardonay or merlot is all you need, then order what sounds good

When ordering wine from more upscale establishments you will be able to sample the wine you want to order before you are brought a bottle, if they do not offer you a sample glass when ordering a 35$+ bottle of wine, ask for one [the server will be the one looking stupid not you]

once you receive the sample, lift the glass to your mouth and smell the wine, then lower the glass, swirl the glass slightly to free air, then take about a half mouthfull sip and swallow [some ppl will say spit it back in the glass, but i think thats rediculous at a resturant and only required in tasting at wineries etc.

doing this, being guy or girl, you could impress a date, family member, etc. and in the end you will find this process is more about selecting, EVERY time somthing you prefer to drink, over the usuall majority of the table who knows nothing or little about wine.

 

1.b ordering vodka:

vodka is my prefered alchohol of choice, working in the bar industry, most industry people prefer vodka over all other, but thats irrelevent.

the following is my opinions on vodka, and media hype

alot of times, if your in a bar, and somone orders a vodka + soda, Vodka 7, etc. they do not ask for a specific type of vodka, therefor you receive the "rail" liquor, the generic liquour they use for all highball cocktails, which is typically:



if your drinking to get fucked up, and not spend too much money, stick to what the bar gives you, otherwise order the following:

people who dont know vodka too well and want somthing good, or are trying to "look" cool, etc. will generally drink either belvedere or grey goose, dont get me wrong though, 2 very good vodka's

 

personally, i feel Ketel one, Level [by absolute] and iceberg are the best vodka's on the market in terms of taste and smoothness




are all superior choices, they may not cost as much as the goose, but imo when you order any of those three, you are getting a premium vodka, i highly suggest anyone in the position to, try Ketel one

and again, this is somthing that may or may not help you in the end, but good to know, and bartenders might hook ya up when u know what you like.

 

1.c Tipping


let me begin by saying i hate bad tippers, it digsuts me, if you are in a position where you should be tipping, and you cant? - you shouldnt be there

people are providing services, wether it be bringing you food, or simply pouring you a drink without them you wouldnt be getting what you want, therefor, i feel even bad services warrents a tip. Another way to think of it, is if you were on that side of things in the service industry, wouldnt u expect a tip for your work?

tipping at bars is easy too, to do it well, and get served quickly in a busy bar or club find a bartender, 1 you will go to the whole night, go up maybe introduce yourself a little, and order a round, say you order 3 drinks and it's 18$ give him a 20$ to cover that, then put a 20$ in the tip jar, make sure he sees it, and you will be good for 5-6 rounds, you tip a 20$ after that and your good for the night

typically i know what to drink/what i like, and i can get myself and 4 people shitfaced puking off 300$ and yea i bet this sounds like alot for some of you, but when you are gettin drinks with double shots, when a single shot of what your drinking costs 8$ or more PLUS tip for 4 ppl? most people i tell it to are pretty impressed

[and no i dont care for drinking 40oz's in the park down the street "cost-effective"]

LOL, it makes me think of my younger years when I was underage to drink. Mad Dog was cheap & fucked you up. If I drank that shit now, I would probelly be pukin all over.

 

Digi, have you tried Vox and Cristall? Absolut does make some good vokda though.

I'm not a big wine drinker, but, white wine just makes me wana throw up, I love a nice dark red wine though.

Haha, you can't beat when you were underage and would be drinking nasty ass 40 oz malt liquor, we always thought we were hot shit, lmao.

no seriously, I've never been the kind of guy who drinks in bars and stuff, but there sure are some usueaful tips I could keep in mind, just in case...

 

damn, if i´m going out to some bars for drinks, i´ll spend maybe $20-25 a night. and that´s getting me pretty drunk, too.

of course, where i live, $20 will easily stretch that far. smaller town means cheaper drinks.

i seriously cannot imagine spending $300 in a night - even for three people.

i heard somewhere that they spit it back out because the alcohol effects your taste, so it would only be appropriate at wineries

o yea but on the subject of tipping.. i worked at dairy queen for a while some time ago. i would have to take the order, work the register, cook the food, and bring it out to their table for customers. one time this lady ordered like $75 worth of food which i cooked and served to her and i didnt even get a penny tip. it doesnt matter if youre not in an upscale place... there was a tip jar... it was a $75 bill total...i was 16 years old saving up my $7/hr pay for my first car...... leave a god damn tip.

 

Sorry to hear that man. But i dont think the lady was being a dickhead on purpose, shes just too much a fucktard to know to tip people in places like DQ. They think tipping is only for fancy restaurants.

 

the only good reason to drink is to get drunk, unless your a fan of slow suicide. i hate social drinkers. Whenever i drink i just get what will get me the drunkest, the fastest, and for the least amount of money. just felt like throwin in my 2 cents.

 

You see tho. If your out with a lady on a date, and you say "Hey, I got this $10 jug of vodka, you wanna go hang out in the woods and get shitfaced?"

Well.... Some girls might say yes, but I donno if they are the girls I want to be going out with.

So, its good to know how to deal with things at the bar.
