While I was growing up my parents listened to the "old country" mostly like Johnny Cash, Kitty Wells, Pasty Cline, Brenda Lee, Bobby Darin, Connie Francis, Patti Page, Hank Williams SR, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, Tammy Wynette, George Jones and stuff like that. Even tho some of their Dolly Parton & Loretta Lynn was tolerable,I liked to listen to Beatles, Rolling Stones, Air Supply, KISS, Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac, Rod Stewart, Eagles, KC & the Sunshine Band, and whatever was on "American Bandstand". My dad would usually leave the house when that show was on. Now with 7 kids, I'm used to hearing a whole new range of music from Marilyn Manson, Ozzy Osbourne, Ziggy Marlow, Korn, Metallica, Rob Zombie, Creed, Matchbox 20, ICP, Rage Against Machines, 3 Doors Down, Backstreet Boys, Shikara, J.LO, Guns-N-Roses, Shania Twain, Keith Urban, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Hank Williams JR, Brooks & Dunn, LIVE, Madonna and whatever classical stuff my 19 yr old will listen to sometimes. The only time my sons complain is if I listen to Cher to long. They all like the Beatles tho. Whenever I turn G-N-R on they know I'm going to really clean the kitchen all day...and laugh as I sing along with it. I can't see how some people compain about certain types of music without ever listening to it or trying to understand it. One thing all my kids like is the fact that I'll let them have the freedom to listen to any music (ok sometimes I complain about Marilyn Manson music videos). I assume freedom of speech includes being able to listen to any music. Was there any music that your parents complained about & refused to let you listen to?
I think my parents are kind of like you actually....theyre very cool about the music i listen to and they never complain about it. My dad especially actually....i introduce him to new bands all the time! Its great, man! lol My dad is into all the classic bands such as Hendrix, the doors, canned heat,Beatles,REM,The ramones,Def leppard,led zeppelin etc etc ( all of whom i love aswell), but he also loves some of my fav bands! Bands such as HIM,Muse,Flowing tears,Incubus,stonesour,metallica,GnR,N Lacuna coil,Arch enemy,Korn,nirvana,Enigma etc etc -HIM and Enigma especially, he loves them to bits!! lol....he also loves muse aswell. Basically, my dad loves the same bands i do most of the time so he cant complain about my music! lol peace and love xxxxxx
