I voted but who is to say those who did not sat on their "lazy asses". maybe those who did not vote had work/class or both all day, like a few of my friends, who are probably more hard working than you. there, sucks to make assumptions eh?

Dude, I was just making a small joke. Don't be such a dick. This is why I don't post that much on this message board. No one here has a sense of humor.

Yeah, and absentee ballots can be used if you know you will be working or in school all day too...

As far as I'm concerned most place of work, or school will give you the time out to go vote; everywhere around here does anyway.

Polls were open til 8 PM in WI. More than enough time to go vote, it only takes a few minutes, given that your municipal has enough polling centers open so they don't become too crowded.

To me, there isn't a reason to not vote, unless you flat out dont have an opinion or care that much; I'd rather the people who don't care, to not vote in the first place...leave it up to the people who do give a shit what happens to our country, instead.

    No i didn't and i'm damn proud that i don't.

Voting is useless unless it's a direct democracy, voting in a representative democracy is worse than useless.

And if were to vote in a representative democracy it sure as hell wouldn't be for any of the people who have been running.

Beyond Democracy, (What could there possibly be)?

    Free individuals govern themselves.

    Direct democracy or consensus.

anything else is a losing compromise.

I voted yesterday and damn proud of it.

In fact, when I'm in the voting booth, I feel a sense of power that I have the opportunity to CHOOSE my future. Of course, maybe others won't feel the same way, but that's OK.

As a woman, I didn't always have the opportunity to vote (well, I did, but my female ancestors didn't), so I feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that I have that opportunity. It's not a perfect system, but it's the system that we have, nonetheless. Some people in this world get shot if they vote (or don't vote the right way!) and people in this world don't HAVE the opportunity to vote.

At least Donald Rumsfeld resigned...I have a feeling it has something to do with how the election turned out.

You got to choose which of 2 masters to serve.
Niether very distinguishable from the other(expect maybe being labeled "blue team and red team")

    congratulations, i guess.

If you don't like our system, get out and try and change it...don't sit around and berade people who choose to PARTICIPATE. Don't bitch when things don't go your way....if you sit around and do nothing...nothing will change.

Women didn't always have the right to vote. I don't expect you to understand what they had to go through to give ME this right.

I do try and change it.

The difference is that you think pushing a button on a flat screen (or punching a hole or pulling a lever) is actually doing anything.

You do your civic duty once every 2 years and believe that you're making a real difference?

    It's not and your not.

And speaking as a descendant of american slaves, dont preach to me about understanding voting rights.

So what do you do to try and change it? NOT VOTE? That doesn't do a damn thing, you're just part of the percentage that bitch about how our system works, but doesn't get out and do ANYTHING about it.

    Local community action.
    food not bombs.
    indymedia.
    neighborhood consensus building.

    to name a few.

I've literally given the shirt off my back before.

Pulling a lever is NOT action.

    It's nothing.

It's the equivalent of rooting for your favorite sports team.
Makes you feel good, but doen't change the game of football, does it?

So you're just going to let a bunch of people choose your future? There are other people you can vote for besides the Dems and Reps. I mean, there are candidates out there that might match up with what you might agree with. Or how about YOU run for office? Now THAT'S action.

1.) You are mistaken if you actually belive that voting isn't letting a bunch of people choose your future.

2.) I gaurantee that there are no political parties or political canditates that agree with me.

3.) I'd rather be a street walker than a politician.

4.) that's not action, that's selling out for power respect and money none of which are on my list of priorities.
