What a load of crap this programme is. It is about as original as a bar of soap. It is prommoted as being shocking and unless they are refering to the acting they are very much mistaken. This is neither funny or racy and the stuff that is considered shocking on American T.V is astounding. Of course in America it was seen as shocking when Janet Jacksons nipple came out! and caused uproar from all those silly groups of people trying to spoil things for the rest of America. In England it was just considered funny.
yeesh thanks for bashing both my favorite tv show and my country! what does janet jacksons nipple have to do with desperate housewives?
I did not bash your country at all and if you read my thread more carefully you will see what Jackson has to do with it. On a recent documentary about Desperate Housewives, shown here in England many Americans were seen remarking on its "Racy" content and how shocking it was and telling us how there have been groups of self appointed crusaders of public taste trying to get it off the air (therefore making it more popular). Well it really is not shocking or racy or in the slightest bit funny. There is absolutely nothing new about Desperate housewives and the jokes are very basic and have been done before in far better ways. It is truely dire. I made the point about Jackson to point out what many Americans see as shocking and controversial when they are not at all. I certainly would not bash your country, I love it and many of its people.
I like Desperate Housewives, is not like.. ohhh waooo, but it entertains me. I dont think is shocking, on the contrary I think it stays real to what is trying to represent, middle-upper class "housewives".
Gladstone does have a good point, but the Janet Jackson thing is a little off. The only reason that was such a huge deal here was because of the FCC. I sometimes wonder when they are going to start smudging men's nipples... But about Desperate Housewives... I've followed it, as there is nothing else to watch Sunday night. I must say, it is very simple... the dialogue, the humor, the story line. What I dislike about it most though, is that a show about housewives has suddenly turned into a show about a psychotic teenager and his craddle-robbed girlfriend, and a mobster hitman. ...and I think that documentary you saw was promotion, it had to be. I don't know anyone who actually thinks the show is scandelous, but that's how they market it.
I just watched this for the first time, coz it just premiered on Aussie tv, and it seemed to me like a total rip off of American Beauty. And it was dull and boring!
I started to watch it because I'm a big fan of Marcia Cross, the actress who plays Bree. At first, I thought that the show was pretty boring, but I'm starting to get into it.
Yeah, Marcia Cross is so talented. She made killing a large amount of my brain cells by watching Melrose Place reruns over the summer worth it.
