Anybody else like this band? I have been getting into them big time. I love all their shit from the 80's until now. Dave Gahans solo album rocks too.
yah i love them if them are the ones that sing schism " put the peices back to gether " in like this werid beat .
Depeche mode covers schism? Ugggh that makes me ill. Depeche mode makes me kinda ill, i used to listen to them with girls but eh not my thing.
:ssmokeit:No, to my knowledge they do not cover that song. I have been seeing Depeche live for over 20 years and they are still amazing. Dave Gahan is still pretty hot too, being an old geezer and whatnot.
Yeah how can you confuse Tool and Depeche? I would like to see Maynard cover Master and Servant though....
Unimaginitive? You are trippin dude. Do you even know who Depeche Mode is? I just don't see how someone who seems so interested in the New Wave movement (judging by your posts) can say that about them.
"interested in the [new wave movement]"?! didn't this so called "new wave" end in the 80's? i think you are confusing my interest in new music [and the "new wave" of artists in these genres] for an affection for tastless, coulourless, odorless, sterile commercial bullshit. the definition for unimaginative that i am using, in this instance, is in regard to the lackluster development of a musical theme. anyone with ableton or any other similar program could replicate this crap in 5 minutes or less. i have as much respect for these guys as tiffany, duran duran, or marky mark. * so i thought about this post a little, and it might seem a little dick-ish. not my intent, but feel free to take it as you wish. i don't know how you could possibly gather that i was into "new-wave" music based on my posts, which leads me to believe you haven't read them or that you could be confusing me with someone else. at any rate, just keeping the balance... if everyone posted generic comments of approval, it would be pretty boring have a nice day
Depeche Mode began in the early 80's, or late 70's. They were of the pioneers of the new wave movement. Guess you havn't listened to them... You have posted two threads asking people what New Wave music they recommend... well, here you go...
i remember those... from like 4 years ago. and i gleaned two bands from that... xtc and joy division. 4 years ago, i also listened to grunge a lot, and thought the strokes were really cool. but this is not then, and my preferences have evolved. really though, to think that i haven't ever heard these guys(depeche mode) is ridiculous... since hearing them is what i base my distaste on... plus, it isn't like they're some cutting edge under-the-radar band. seems to me they are a staple for anybody that wants to seem brooding and introspective (hot topic kids), but that's my opinion. and anyway, i figure someone would gather that i didn't listen to this particular flavor of music based on the vast majority of the threads i participate in... something about grateful dead and phish just screams "i wanna cut myself" :\ i do not care for new-wave, industrial, "hard rock", metal(and its sub-genres), and i don't like polka HA so there :\ sorry to interrupt your mindless adoration thread that has no pertinent information in it whatsoever...
You obviously haven't listened to enough of them to form a real opinion, since you had no idea that they even existed in the 80's. You are the fucking king of generalizations. Brooding hot topic kids? Get over yourself man...
god damn man... how did you pass high school? did they put no emphasis on reading comprehension? the sarcastic sentence "didn't that shit die in the 80's", in reference to new-wave, would(should) lead one to believe that the owner of the statement has at least a nominal understanding of the subject. perhaps deductive reasoning is not a skill you possess. i might add, if i am the king of generalizations, that must make you the emperor of assumptions. you have made many about me, and you haven't hit the proverbial nail on the head yet. isn't this little poo-flinging contest fun?
Nice try. Sarcastic? My ass. You said that I was confusing new wave music to new music, which you classified Depeche Mode as. I really don't care, but don't try to cover yourself up by attacking my intellect. I knew what you meant when you said it. Don't use fancy words to try to make yourself look like you are winning an argument. Reading comprehension? Maybe if you could transfer your thoughts into writing we wouldn't have this problem. If I have made so many assumptions about you, why aren't you trying to defend yourself? You have never said anything about your knowledge of Depeche Mode or where they came from since I "assumed" you thought they were a newer band. Have you listened to their earlier music? Do you still think they are unimaginative and bland? If so, that is fine, but still pretty far off. They were pioneers in the new wave movement, the industrial music scene, and are still going strong.
ah, c'mon. perhaps the new/new-wave bit was confusing, but i figured you would deduce that i wasn't describing depeche mode as new music. in regard to "attacking" your intellect... i regret that you perceive this as an attack on your intellect. apologies... but it seems clear (and especially should to someone who has "read" my posts) that i could give a shit about the kind music that you seem to love. in regards to defending myself... why would i bother with that? i enjoy a rousing debate/argument every once in a while, especially when it involves a thread of this nature... since it is essentially meaningless and uninformative. glad i could provide some substance to go with the replies of 'omg they r the bomb" kinda shit. but, i feel it wholly unnecessary to defend myself against whatever argument you would like to pose concerning my knowledge of mall music... that's right, if i wanted to hear depeche mode, i would go to the mall... but yeah, i feel no obligation to validate myself in you or any of the other imaginary hip-forums folk's eyes... even if it is "un-cool" to show disrespect for purveyors and pioneers of generica. at any rate, this is my opinion, let me have it... instead of wasting your time trying to convince me that this shit is worth listening to. have a nice day.
