My cat (Kung), I have realized, never purrs!! Is this normal? She was originally ferial but I got her while young I am wondering is this why she is not as affectionate as some other people’s cats. Also she sheds like a snow storm the hair gets into every thing I opened my cd tray and there was hair inside. Is it possible that she wasn’t shown how to groom herself and will never know?
It depends on what kind of cat it is. Some cats rarely purr. As for shedding some cats just do that all year. I have a Bombay that sheds only a little...but my Norweigen Forest cat sheds constantly. If the cat doesn't groom himself, just brush him. You can also buy powder shampoos and foam stuff that you just rub on and brush out. Most cats can teach themselves to groom though, its kinda like an instinct.
I reckon that a good idea for you to to would be to groom her for even just 15 minutes a day. That way you will be able to control the fur problem and make sure that you brush most the loose fur out onto a specific place (an old towel or something). This might also encourage her to do it herself more often, or may be even you'll find her purring - a lot of cats purr when they're groomed! Just do it regularly for 15 minutes a day and i reckon that'll help. Love, Sunshine Lily xxx
Thanks, I'll definitely try more brushing and the shampoo. I've only washed her twice she hates it and looks fierce miserable afterwards, though she jumps onto the edge of the sink and try's to drink the water every time I shave maybe I should push her in ?
One of my cats likes to sit in the sinks to get a drink...but HATES water at any other point in time. lol Cats are just strange I guess.
Yep. I took Kong into the shower with me, she yowled (well, upset cat noises, I don't know how to spell them) expressing a mixture of I'm gona get ya / this is so bad no cat has suffered as I have. Why can't cats learn quiet anxiety and angst? Each time I tried to pick her up she would cling to the plastic shower door and try to climb out. I figured she would get used to it but she kept protesting for forty minuets, all the while I was rubbing shampoo into her combing her with a cat brush and trying to sooth her. Afterwards she spent the whole evening grooming her self and in the morning produced the biggest hairball (pending Guinness book of records investigations) a day or to later she was the same hair shedding fuzz ball as before. Is any one else surprised at how small and thin a wet cat is?

you'd think after the 3rd or 4th bath they'd realize you're not trying to kill them. I've had cats that didn't purr, but most of those have been male. Maybe she's just a cranky kitty.
