So.. I'm going to have some big decisions here in the next week or so i think... Well.. when i got home today I checked my caller id.. and i had a missed call from one of the local colleges here.. i had no idea who would have called me from the college.. i asked a couple people and they all said they didnt call me so i was like what the fuck.. well i get online to check my email.. and come to find out i have an Email from the college as well.. offering me a job.. I posted a Resume awhile back online and they found it and are interested in me cooking for them.. fucking right! right? well.. now lets jump to my job at the moment.. the current kitchen manager has been fucking up big time lately.. i mean BIG TIME.. and the head manager is pissed about it.. well i brought up the fact that i think i should head the kitchen again(i was kitchen manager there for a year).. so she was like "we'll talk tomorrow morning".. so heres the thing now.. which way do i go??? do i take a job as a manager? or do i go work for the school.. i guess im not sure yet.. because i dont know how much the school is going to pay and what the benefits are.. but i know a lot schools will offer free credits to employees.. and usually ya get good health and other benefits.. guess i'm gonna have to wait to hear back from the school to really weigh the options.. damn it.. i hate making big.. possibly life changing decisions

yea whichever pays most, but only if its a decent ammount difference, if something not really noticable go with your heart and pick the one you would like and enjoy more. i personally ould hate to work in a school, the place brings upon too many bad memories.

If you are enjoying you current job, and are comfertable with the ammount of money you have now then stay. Dont fix what isent broken. I doubt working at a school would be more fun than at a resturant.

Your in the position to make the most of the situation...

Having a job you dont have to leave at the moment puts you in a position of power to obtain a better job

I say go to the school, go for an interview, find out specifics of the job, lay out that you already have a job which you love, but If this opportunity is better and the conditions of it are better than your current job, say you would be willing to agree upon a long term position with them if they offer you what you want

wait until you find out more from the college job.

and after that, just pick the one you would enjoy more. nothing sucks worse than having a job you hate. being a manager would be cool.. and you'd probably get paid more

its not really working my way up.. it would be working my way back.. since i was kitchen manager for a year there already.. then got demoted because of conflicts between me and the head manager.. since being demoted though we've worked things out and understand each other better now

Yea.. I've already come to the conclusion that i'm holding all the aces in this game... i can either use this offer to asure either A. Better Pay at my current job or B. secure my kitchen manager position and get a raise or.. i can use my current job as leverage to asure me better pay at a new job... its a win-win situation in my eyes

are you kidding me???? at a college?.. I'd stare at nothing but fine ass poon all day long :spliff: ... but then again.. i doubt i would get away with 90% of what i say at my current job at the school... like us kitchen staff say "good things theres no such thing as sexual herassment here".. otherwise.. we'd all be multiple repeat offenders

I have no idea who your current employer is, and how laid back she is. This is an option that might work out best. If your cool with your current emplyer you should approach her and tell her that even tho you really enjoy working there, a better oppurtunity has presented itself to you. You could try the school job and leave your current position on good terms and with a reasonable notice.

If the school works out then fantastic. If you deicde later on that you may have made the wrong decision you could go back to your current employer and say that things didn't work out as you had planned.

Say that you are sorry to have left the job that treated you so well, and you would like to return.

Again, I'm not sure if this is an option for you, but I think it's something you should investigate and think about.

Good luck, either way it sounds like you're going to do pretty well.

yea.. food industry dont work like that really.. you can't leave some place and try and come back and expect all the hours you once had.. they obviously are going to have to hire someone that can open 5 days a week(we can barely get kids that can flip a burger).. if i asked for my job back i wouldnt expect them to cut everyones hours enough for me to get my hours back..

Don't underestimate what you can get away with working at a college. The food service people at my college are so rude and mean to everyone, and it is just the norm. Also, I work at a college and am downright mean to people all the time.

As everyone has said, go to the interview. You have nothing to lose by exploring your options, and working at a college can give you access to a lot of resources, aside from tuition assistance and such, even if the pay is less.

That it is!.. and thats why after talking on the phone to the school.. I may be changing jobs.. if i am offered the job.. he told me today that there are Full benefits and some other benefits as well.. PLUS.. heres the kicker.. there is down time around christmas and through the summer where i will most likely get laid off.. then i get to collect unemployment until i am hired back in the fall.. and if i am not hired back.. i would have plenty of unemployment since i they would have to pay back to my last job if i was permently let go.. and i've been there 3 years.. I really want this job now.. I've shaved my beard off, still have the gotee.. but trimmed.. and i got my hair cut..
