This is more like a topic to say a few things that should be said to a newcomer (me) about tattoo's.

Ok. I know of course this is a permanent thing. I want to get one sometime soon. No I don't really have ANY idea as to what I want (I know that's supposedly bad.)

But let's discuss it. I mean people say "No don't get that you'll hate it when you're older. No don't get that you'll hate it in a month. It has to have a meaning behind it, or it wont last. It has to be something original, or you'll hate it."

Blah blah. The people who say that stuff to me are the ones that don't even have tattoo's! How the hell do they know they'll feel the same just because they heard that from their friend who doesn't have tattoo's either doesn't make it everyones opinion.

Has anyone else on the forums had any desire to get a tattoo? If so what, and how do you think I should decide.

I think you should pick something that means something to you on a personal level, and that you know will last as that. My first tattoo at age 17 was a lotus and butterfly on my arm. I mentally attached the phrase "Everything you need is within you" to it, and now whenever I'm stressing, I look at it and am reminded of that. I'm still in love with it. I got a carnation on my back, that one's for my mom because she's done everything for me. I got ladybugs wandering because they're representative of me...wandering aimlessly and loving every minute of it :)
See? What's important to you? Family, friends, independence, exploration, education, something that's interested you forever or that reminds you of your childhood...just choose something you know you won't hate in 10 years (most of the things I listed are eternal...don't get a sports emblem or something because those tastes can change)! The only hard part is choosing from all those possibilities!

I don't get the whole "thinking about it" thing.

Say I like video games, and anime. People would say not to get any thing like that, but those things have meaning to me. I really love them.

It's not like I can get a tattoo in memory of my dead brother, or something like that. I don't have any dead family members. Well ones that close.

What kind of meaning should my tattoo have...ugh.

It sounds to me like you just want a tattoo to have a tattoo. You'll most likely regret it if you don't have any meaning behind it. You may not, though.
You're 18....legal finally to get a tatt. Is that WHY you want one?
Design your own tattoo. I designed one of mine and the other was just a random penguin....but, I love penguins.

I doubt i'll grow out of a "phase" of liking videogames and anime.

I wanted at tattoo before I was 18, but my mom wouldn't sign for me to get one, because she didn't want her to be the blame if I regretted it.

I'll do some thinking about before I get something. Thanks.

Well the choice is ours i think. no one else would force you to have a tattoo that you dont like! U should make your own choice!

i dont have a tattoo yet, but planning to do one soon. I want a dolphin one! Any objections?)
