a talented footballer, personally Im not that keen on football so just a talent for kicking a ball around doesnt impress me that much .

but hopefully someone will learn something from the way he fucked himself up with alcohol and not follow in his footsteps .

nobody is all bad so he may well have done good things in his life we dont know that made up for the fact he destroyed his second liver .

apart from the drink he may have been a good friend or son or given to charitys we dont know

but drinking when youve just been given a replacement liver is pretty bad considering there are other people who also need one .

I see alcoholics and drug addiction as a weakness of charicter , I dont see it as a illness. but that doesnt mean that those people are entirely bad but just that they are responsible for the bad things they do when drunk, we all have faults and do things that suck .

my cousin died not that long ago though drinking and apart from the time she was drinking she was a fine girl and I loved her , but she was responsible for her own drinking and her own early death

I suppose it is sad, but the guy was an alcoholic and ignored warnings for years. What did he expect.... immortality?

It's sad that a person's died, as it always is, and saddest for those he left behind. However, I have little sympathy for the man himself. He should have died several years ago, before he wasted a second liver which could have saved the life of someone much more deserving....

He did not deserve to die, the alcohol just had too much a hold on him. Many have felt this. You might even know someone who has a drinking problem. Would say they deserve to die? Have some bloody respect. Remember him for his ability on the field not his faults.

Yeah, my Grandad died from being an alcoholic. I didn't say he deserved to die, I said the liver should have been given to someone more deserving, someone who wouldn't drink away a second chance at life. I don't care much for his ability on the field, I don't even like football. I'd think the same even if he was in my favourite band, or a great novelist. The truth is, he fucked up, he was an alcoholic and a wife beater. I don't respect that....

why? wot did George Best have respect for? kicking an inflated pigskin, drinking away a second chance of life and beating yer missus black and blue are hardly admirable traits imo.....

I didn't know about the wife beater bit. We only hear about his footy skills over here. I guess it's all a shame and a waste.

While people might know the movie The Karate Kid, not all would know his name. George Best however, is a sporting legend and in a country where soccer rules, England, it's not hard to see why there was a thread about Best. No harm done i'm sure.
