Sopor Aeternus, Das Ich, Funker Vogt and Kovenant.

Basically darkwave is a mix of industrial and gothic if you didn't know, just didn't know where to put this since it doesn't fall in any other category.. So I guess it is experimental...

Sopor Aeternus and the Ensemble of Shadows is a far cry from industrial. It's the only band from those four you mentioned that I know and like, but then again I'm more into the dreamy, atmospheric side of darkwave they call Ethereal.

Lycia, Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Faith and the Muse, This Ascension, etc.

Sopor Aeternus isn't industrial, but they are darkwave. Most people classify darkwave as industrial/gothic. Sopor Aeternus leans much more to gothic, but they are pretty much unique in any genre.

You're right, there's darkwave that leans to the gothic side and there's more industrial-sounding darkwave. I just wouldn't want people to go thinking that all darkwave is very industrial-influence, because personally I like my darkwave without the electro beats. Dreamy swirly goth stuff, that's where it's at for me! :)

Anyways, it's nice to see someone else into this kind of music on a site like this!

Yeah, that was my bad. Darkwave is a very broad genre. It is also very underappreciated and I didn't really think anyone would even know what it was haha, let alone listen and like it.

I also prefer the smoother and more melodic darkwave for just listening to, but for going to a club or party, industrial darkwave can't be beat.

FYI Sopor Aeternus and the Ensemble of Shadows is actually a solo project, and could be categorized as either Gothic or Darkwave.

Darkwave is awesome.. I lean more towards Vond, Fata Morgana and some (early) Mortiis - Crypt of the wizard, Fodt til a Herske and The Stargate basically.

Wasn't early Mortiis more black metal since he just got out of Emperor? I thought he didn't turn darkwave till after a cd or two... But I think he is aweosme doing both.

Couldve been.. not really up on the chronology ;)
It all went downhill with The Smell of Rain though, that was the most disappointing album I've ever had the displeasure of downloading.

Did you ever listen to 'The Grudge'? I don't know if that was before or after... I downloaded both and I think The Grudge was much better. Or do you know who Leaether Strip is? Check them out.

Exactly! What a bunch of rubbish compared to Stargate and Crypt of the wizard. Although Crypt of the wizard gets on my nerves as well nowadays because of those simple keyboard sounds, reminds me of very old computergames
I'm not quite sure what dark wave is though, I don't like most typical 'gothic' stuff, especially not if there are electronic and industrial elements mixed in it. Those two things don't fit with the atmospheric/folky sound I associated with dark wave. But most other people do so I guess I just get the genre wrong. I like stuff like Engelsstaub - Ignis fatuus, Elend, Dead Can Dance, some Sopor Aeternus, that kind of stuff. Mostly mix it in a playlist with folk metal, atmospheric black metal and stuff. But lately I'm not in the mood for those genres at all.
