so is there any way to do a good cultivation project without a pressure cooker? ive been reading alot on shroomery.org but i cant seem to find anything without a pressure cooker. anyone got anything to help me?
I just went and got a PC for $40 at walmart... Just go get one, or boil your jars in a big pot. That's what I did till I got one.
yea, you can put about an inch of water in a large pot and boil the water with a lid on it for a bit over an hour, but the results vary, you could get 100% growth or 100% contamination rates
And make sure you put something between the bottom of the pot and the jars, I just crinkle up some tin foil for the spacer or stack lids to set the jars on.
thank you everyone . i probably will go with buying a pressure cooker since i dont wanna risk anything too greatly, especially if im ordering the spores..
Just boiling PF jars works damn well. I do it sometimes when I dont wanna fire up the PC for just a test jar or something. I would spawn them to some kind of bulk instead of just fruiting from cakes, though.
you could get away with boiling (steam sterilization of jars) ive seen it done before. to better your chances of success you might want to start with a liquid culture, a strong isolate, or a strain known for being a fast colonizer.
