Crap! A "Gun Control Task Force"

Obama is announcing it live on TV as I write this. Please! Please. There was no way to prevent this sick tragedy in CT. It's very hard to accept, but it's the truth. Why are more gun laws being considered? And at what cost? To what end? Of the nations that have low gun crimes, its about the close family unit, and ties with extended family. The US prides itself on the "modern family", but you know......it might be at the root of why people don't have a central support system.

 

At least he's acknowledging that prohibition is not the solution. Sounds to me like he's looking at closing loopholes and tighter control over access by criminals/mentally ill people.
I was a bit impressed that in his speech, and a little elsewhere in the current dialog that there is finally talk about our failed mental health system.

As I recently heard, our defacto national health policy is to house the mentally ill in prisons.

 

I can't grasp the whole concept of anyone being able to have a gun "bare arms".
Yes it was a terrible horrific incident but surely this type of thing wouldn't happen if these people couldn't get access to guns so easy!

Not to mention that majority of the weapons that people own or so I'm lead to believe are hand guns whom they would only use them on people, coz we have no other natural predator... And if we have to carry around guns in fear of our selfs then we are a sorry lot indeed...

In New Zealand Police don't even carry guns...

Conclusion: Get rid of them

This is just my opinion,

 

The mental health resources are there. Perhaps it is more accurate to say individuals aren't fully exploring their personal situations. I have seen, on the very smallest of scales, that individuals are making decisions inconsistent with the needs of their situation. No law is going to mandate wisdom.

There is no reason for anyone to own a semi-automatic assault rifle. It makes me sick that people think their right to bear arms extends to this. These weapons were designed to inflict maximum damage. Unless a group of 20 armed men are breaking into your house, no one needs that shit for self defense. They just don't. I'm fine with these weapons being banned. No one is trying to take all guns away, they're just trying to ban these ridiculous weapons and close loopholes that makes it possible for people to obtain guns without background checks.

Will this stop mass killings? No. People are nuts. Will this stop someone from taking almost 30 lives at one time? Yes.

 

Why is it impossible? Australia did the same thing years ago, sure that's a much smaller scale, but you said it yourself "it's about a close family unit" I'm sure the "modern" family could see in this day and age there's no need for guns to be in every house hold - if everyone of these family units band together there is honestly no room for an individual with a gun,

Also I believe that if there were no easy way to access guns these troubled individuals would not bring the inicent lives of others with them, if they had decided to end there own - it's sick really hey go on a rampage and become famous (sure on a negative end) but these people live on because of it - why would we give them the luxury

 

It's tradition here. The country was taken with guns. The vast stretches of wilderness were roamed by thousands of people with guns who oftentimes took what they wanted with guns. Most everyone roaming around on horses and going from town to town carried guns. There were fuck heads like Billy the Kid (and most likely thousands of others) that took offense easily and drew down to kill at the slip of a lip. It's in the genes at this point, it seems.

Yes I understand this, Australia (where I'm from) was founded because we were convicts bought here – so it's ok for me to rob a bank because its in my genes??

Its hard not to laugh at anyone who calls guns 'assault rifles, or assault weapons' get the fuck outta here,, i could grab a box of tin foil and assault you tell you don't breathe.

The term assault rifle comes from AR, the initials who designed the first one ArmaLite before the 50's, the media decided to tell everyone its an assault rifle...and look at so many people going along with what the media says....using the terms they gave you to miss-judge the truth.

Every gun i own except my 12guage shotgun is a semi-auto...even my small little .22 SEMI-AUTO...fucking anti gun people are clueless as shit.

Do some research on these killings and youll notice how they are always in 'gun free zones' by people who have weapons not registered to their name.

Banning anything wont do shit. Millions of millions of people including myself own these weapons because we know the next civicl war is not going to be fought with muskets.

Oh and btw to those who are against semi-auto, they now have semi-auto 12guage shotguns to the public. You think a rifle is bad? Ever fired a semi-auto shotgun? You ain't seen shit yet.
