I have little skill or talent in formal poetry, but I often write poems when high. Generally they tend to be goofy, stoned doggerel (I'll post my "Black Walrus" poem sometime), this last time I wrote a poem - sorta trying to imitate talking-blues style - about our nation's beloved leader.

I don't claim to be any sort of good poet so it's probably pretty holey by most poetry standards, but anyhoo, here goes -

    Ride On, Cowboy
    --------

    (Samuel Elliot-esque voice)
Uh oh, here comes that crazy Cowboy
A Wasp who thinks he's Texan
    his blood couldn't be bluer
    Don't need no quick draw
A wallet packs more than any six shooter
    so now he's a Cowboy
at least to himself, it seems
    A Texan Quixote
A rich kid in a Wild West dream
    So let's just humor him
    and hope he leaves
    keep riding on, Cowboy
    keep riding on

Well, the rest of the world
They may point their accusing fingers at you
    They spit on your picture
    and they curse your name
    and your own countrymen
some say you deserve to be in chains
our rep will never be the same
But you're too cool to care, Cowboy
too cool to take any blame
    You just ride on, Cowboy
    Nothing can spoil your game

So there's some desperadoes out there
causing trouble on the other side of town
(er, other side of the world, I mean)
They threaten your folk, and you reply
like a true Cowboy, staring 'em eye to eye
Bring it on, Bring it on!
Don't care for peace, you like a fight
anyway you know in your heart you're right
you say, I know my God's behind me
(Just keep tellin' yourself that, Cowboy)
    Ride On, Cowboy
'Cause no one's holier than thee

Now, the fighters out there in the desert
    Freedom fighters, that is
They say, it's been too long
too long they've been across the sea
    Hey, how about that, Cowboy
Your freedom fighters want to be free
But that won't faze you, Cowboy
no cowardly thought enters a cowboy's head
And as your friends are happy to remind you
Money speaks louder than the dead

Sorry to interrupt your dream, Cowboy
but I think it's time you hit
    that old dusty trail
and take your crooked posse with you...

    Ride off Cowboy
    Ride off into the sunset

    ---
What d'yall think, political stances aside?

I don't know who Sam Elliot is, but that didn't stop me from liking this poem. It's pretty cool.:)
